Introduce yourself
Aloha everyone! My name is Skip and will be moving with my lovely wife Simona and our two young boys sometime later this year. We purchased a home in Nanawale last month and are eager to return to the BI.

I did not see this forum! So I will also say aloha to the Punaweb folk. I moved here 4 months ago and live in Nanawale. Love the convenience, love the experience! Lived on the eastern side of Oregon, a beautiful area with unlimited outdoors recreation. After 39 yrs, I said good-bye to my long-time friends, co-workers and church to be closer to my daughter who lives on Maui. Activities were horses, bicycling, hiking in the mountains, skiing, snowshoeing. Now, I am learning to snorkel, exploring this beautiful island, volunteering in the church to help with the sick, the homeless, the hopeless, and the hungry.
Two earthquakes have not unnerved me yet!

Aloha! I've been reading topics on the board for a few weeks, and just now saw the introduce thread.

My partner Tom and I live on the tiny island of St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands. We are at nearly the same latitude as B.I. He was the senior tugboat captain for our large oil refinery on our island...after 23 years of employment with them, alas, the refinery is closing. Sad He was offered a terrific job in Hawaii and after some research, we're coming!!! Smile After much, much research, reading, and talking to people, we have decided to locate near Hilo, and we will be renting a fully furnished home.

Tom starts his job in April, but I'm not coming until first of August because of our dogs. Their titers are at the DOD lab and we have lined up the vet in Kona for direct airport release.

We are avid divers and kayakers and look forward to a totally different type of diving from what we're accustomed to.

Bottom line: we can't wait to come!

Rusty, there are vacant lots all around me and I wonder as I walk by each of them what will happen to them in the future!

Aloha Kakou! Ooops I have been “lurking” on punaweb too long…..since first hearing about this forum many years ago. So thought to start with the introduction and who knows where it goes? I am born and raised in Hawaii (Queens Hospital Room 206, Nov.1957). Lived on Oahu most of my life (Dad was in the service and he had several contracts serving in CA, FL, Guam and Samoa) until moving to Kauai for 4 years in the 80’s, then 14 years on Maui til 2002, and Puna ever since. Bought a fixer-upper that borders the big Kahaualea forest in Volcano in 2002 and began to sculpt my Eden with all my favorite plants: natives, bromeliads, bamboo, ti, dracaena and about any other non-invasives that will grow in the wet and cold of upcountry. My school background was at Punahou and UH Manoa (degree in Biology and Real Estate Appraisal and Marketing). I have worked as an Air Traffic Controller on Kauai and Maui, a schoolteacher on Maui (mathematics and volleyball coach), Eco-tourguide (specialties are Hawaiian ethnobotany and Marine Biology), a Rock n’ Roll DJ on Oahu and Maui (yes I was the Pirate of the Earwaves on KAOI-FM in the early 90’s), and many years RE sales/brokerage on Oahu, Kauai, Maui and now Hawaii island. I love God and my wife and son, getting wet (snorkel, SCUBA, windsurfing, kayaking, swimming), hiking (the longer the better), caving (Puna is the No. 2 place in the world for caving behind Kentucky), gardening and propagating flora, painting and sketching, reading and writing, and enjoying a simple life. Currently I volunteer as a MasterGardener at UHH helping the public with their ag questions, and as a rain-forest guide on the free Monday morning walks at Volcano Art Center. Mahalo punaweb-ites for all your input. It has been great reading about all what’s happening in our community over the years; thanks to all the contributors and moderators. Anyone looking for a buddy to go on long, strenuous, sweaty hikes to places few else ever goes, or spelunking the many caves of Puna and Ka’u (I know where the caves are!) please let me know and contact me at: jjonhawaii AT yahoo dot com ...or... Wow, haven't logged in here in a few weeks and now there is someone poaching my name! ThePunaGirl, we have to arm wrestle for this! Ha - just kidding SmileSmile As an update, I swear I am still moving! Just finishing the money pit here and waiting on the economy to turn around. @David M., I was at the Chamblee PD last week and thought of you. I was there renewing my adjuster's liscense fingerprints so don't go starting rumors! @TonyB - are you guys still in Atlanta? @Brian The Teacher - I send you an e-mail through the forum.

Cool, I plan to visit again this year and I'm getting a series of gel shots in my knee now. Hike sounds good.
