Any ideas as to how to deal with leaf mold?? I've been removing the leaves as I see new mold... now I have a plant with lots of green tomatoes, but its practically bald! Exactly what do the leaves do for the plant?? are they needed for the fruit to ripen? Does the mold affect the quality of the tomatoes? Just wonderin.....

You probably have blight?? My plant had it bad and I sprayed it with Serenade about 10 days ago, after removing damaged leaves. It seems to be recovering and is not showing any new damage. I got the Serenade from Amazon. I have no idea if it is available locally. The leaves produce the nutrients for the plant, including the fruit, so few leaves means poor development and probably poorly sized and tasting fruit.

Have you tried spraying with sulfur ?
We have used that in the past.

I'll second the use of Serenade. I don't like the smell, but that stuff works. Also, like riverwolf posted. Sulfur is another things that will work. When I need to use sulfur. I normal just buy a bottle of Safer Fungicide. If I remember correctly. It's like a 12 or 14% sulfur. I'm sure you should be able to find either one at the local garden store. Both of them are listed as OMRI also, so finding them should be easy.
Good luck

Sulfur hasn't been working for me on my tomatoes. i had to cut off most of the leaves on tomatoes and the mold killed most of the plants. have to restart anew. Tomatoes were in large pots in a green house, and still there is too much moisture and humidity for them to survive.
i will try serenade next.

Mary, I'm sure you already know this. If you can, and your greenhouse will allow it. Roll up your sides some. This will allow for more air flow and keep your air from getting stagnant and reduce some of the moisture. Solar ridge vents also helps with heat and air flow. Adding fans at the ends and exhaust vents, but it get's costly.
What size GH are you growing in? I'd start with rolling up the sides and maybe installing a ride vent. You got to get some air flow in there and get that air moving. Get that nasty moisture out of there. Mold just loves those conditions. Also, there are some new fans on the market that run off of solar power. These are better then the old models and last and work better. If you can spend a little money. Solar panel with DC fans. Just my 2 cents.
Good luck

Here's a good video on venting the sides and keeping bugs out. He talks about some of the issues Mary is having.
Good luck,

Hi Steve, thank you for the advice,
my GH is 15 by 25
i do have side ventilation on both sides of my green house, it doesn't seem to help much.
i will look into solar fans at some point.
i am also going to try and space all the plants far apart, may be that will help it. don't know...

canistel, Sulfur Burners work and I always keep a couple of them handy, but is sounds like the environment in mary's GH needs to be adjusted. If your not getting enough fresh air and your humidity is to high. You are going to run into all types of issues. What I would do on the cheap end. Get some of those cheap box fans. Hang them and get some air flowing. Open up your spacing on your plants, so they get better air flow. Spray everything down with some Serenade. You've got to get the humidity, heat, and air flow under control.
I would buy a couple of these
https://rasahydroponics.com/index.php?ro...ct/product&product_id=534 and place them in a couple of spots. Farmtek is a good source for GH fans and gear. When your ready to ad a vent or fans. You should give them a look. Whish I was in town. I'd swing by and give a look and help out.
Best of luck. If anyone has any questions and wants to talk GH. Email me any time. I should be getting to my place this winter and setting everything up. Looking at a couple of 24-30' x 48-60' units with aquaponic setups. Plus a breeding house.
Take care,
Steve
