Moving to Ainalaoa

KathyH, I too read no "bigot" remarks in your post. Wow, interesting how all the personalities that write on this forum interpret others remarks. Through your posts, I see you as a person who looks much deeper than the skin! I enjoy your critiques and opinion Smile

Its a free country, if KathyH wants to express racist opinions, that is fine. As long as she does not break the law, she can say whatever she wants. Does not bother me one bit, its covered under the first amendment. No doubt the "local families" have a judgement or two to make about KathyH.
I think the KKK should adopt a highway in Georgia and the racist mustard BBQ guy in Georgia should fly his rebel flag high, even higher then the US flag and even higher then the UN flag! Granted in this day an age among "progressive" people you wont have many friends if you talk like a bigot.

My take on Ainaloa is back in the early to mid 90's it was scary, trailer park material scary (lots of unpermitted shacks and homes on wheels), but as time has passed it has become gentrified and much more civilized than back in the day.

There are those in my neighborhood who tell me just 25-30 yrs ago, it was lawless, the cops wouldnt come down here, and there were all sorts of shenanigans going on. Now it is just the Association's fairly legal shenanigans, and cops cruise through here almost daily as a routine. Some one losing a car battery was the theft of the year. Now just a mere $65K will get you the cheapest vacant lot in the 'hood.

Really in relativity, I imagine Hawaii (Big Island) was much as Alaska was pre-80's. A last frontier, being so remote from growth and amenities. People lived a lot different than they do now, fishing shacks, float homes, tiny homes built on stilts on the steep slopes rising from the sea. People made due in a much wilder and tougher time by these types of living conditions.

It seems to me that the problem areas seem to be the most people congested areas. Just look at Google maps, zoom in on HPP, Ainaloa, or any other that have been mentioned as high crime rates. You will see that those areas are more congested with population. Crime always is more prevalent in areas with larger population bases.

Trailer parks put too many people within to close a proximity, where your new neighbor is only a watermelon seed spit away. This usually is going to cause some crime to occur. Not because the people live in trailers so they are scary, but because too many people living to close together. And unfortunately some resort to crime because of need or greed, congested areas are good prey.

Some people make assumptions about other people, and some people don't. I like to think that I am one of the latter and give people the benefit of the doubt. I am tired of the animosity here and won't be coming back for a while.

DTisme,
Are you leaving because of KathyH's racist comments ?

She didn't really mean what she said and like Oink pointed out,it was just a minor amount of racism !!

The thought of moving my family into the Ainoloa area is an uncomfortable one. That said, I'm sure there are some wonderful individuals there, as there are in any area. I wish you the best, however you might have done better to become fully convinced of the area yourself before your purchase.

Is that message that happy go lucky "white progressive" transplants are scared of living to close to the "local families"?
I actually have the opposite problem, I moved into a neighborhood that is too "white" They make the worst neighbors, don't know how to mind their own business and not constantly judge people, they are scared of everything from a coconut to a motorcycle, and the most obvious fear of all, people that aren't like them. (you know, "local families" and such.) Why the hell would you move to this island if you plan to be scared of 70% of the residents let alone a ****ing coconut? I will probably end up moving to a neighborhood that has more "local" families, I seem to get along with them just fine and they don't scare me like they do my current neighbors, who in fact do scare me with their complete lack of touch with reality. Enjoy your small isolated world folks, Im the first to enjoy a good un PC joke, this joke ain't funny its sad, your the joke.
