Storm approaching - keep an eye on it

Thank you for the heads up warning of possible desasterous weather coming our way. I don't like the position of this newly formed depression because the water is warm for this storm. Is rimpac exercises still going on?. We may need some serious help if we get hit directly from this developing storm.

Looks like it's on its way headed right for Puna. Imagine we could have some surf that would make yesterday's seem small eh Gypsy.

This one is different from our usual pattern because it is forming so close to us. Usually they form way out in the Pacific somewhere and then fall apart when they get close because our waters are generally cool enough to not sustain the energy needed for a hurricane/cyclone/tropical storm. This time the cooler waters are bunched up to the North and East of us, and this thing is forming in waters the same temperature as the water surrounding our Islands.
Time to stock up on TP, no cook foods, and water for the storm season is really upon us. Carol

Speaking of stocking up, do you have a generator connected to your main box ? ?

If we had a generator we wouldn't need to stock up on no cook foods.
We always have batteries charged for my husband's medical device, and other than that we just ride out the no power scenarios using candles for light. We keep a lot of bottles of frozen water in our spare freezer, as long as we don't open the door they keep it pretty cold, or if we don't have much frozen food, we can move the ice into our frig and turn it into an old school icebox. Short of a really major disaster, it works for us. We will be building our next house and in addition to being fully wheelchair accessible, it will either be off grid with backup, or we will build in a backup generator, but we couldn't justify the cost to retro fit this house with a wired in generator. Carol, there is a fairly new option in inverters that has a plug in even for on-grid that allows you to have power even when the grid is down...we would like to get that on a solar lanai cover that we would LOVE to have installed on our south facing lanai (we would have loved to have had the "Florian solar products" lanai cover with clear back panels (really love the holographic ones...), but the contractor they sent last year would not do footings - WTF was my response...but...you only have a limited supply of people...some are not as luminescent as others...)

Earlier this year I installed a flip switch for our generator. It was less than $500 for the flip switch, wire, breaker and locking plug. I ran 35' of extra wire out of the flip switch so that I have the ability to move the generator around. I just have the extra wire looped up and it's hanging from the flip switch box.
I just sold our old generator and we purchased a new one that runs off of both gasoline and propane. If needed, I just plug it into the generator, power her up and flip the switch. We are currently on a grid tie in solar system so if the power goes out, we lose power and that's why I installed the flip switch and purchased the generator.

If you have UV filtered catchment do you still need all the backup water ?
