Uncle Robert
#1
Aloha all
I am writing a profile on Uncle Robert for a magazine and am wondering if there are any long time residents on here that can speak to his role in the local Hawaiian sovereignty movement and/or stories about life in Kalapana before the lava flow that include Uncle Robert.

This is a positive piece meant to showcase the kupuna of our community. Under deadline so prompt replies are appreciated. Mahalo!

There is an 11-part video interview with him on Youtube, here is part 1:

Contact the ohana in Kaimu, and make a time to visit with Uncle Robert. Best to go to the source, especially given the focus on his "role" in the sovereignty movement.

Hopefully, lots of the old timers will contact you, and perhaps some of his children may want to share stories about their younger years. How wonderful of you to write about him. A living treasure, indeed.

...life in Kalapana before the lava flow...

In 1974 I swam and lazed in Queen's Bath often.
Uncle Robert would sometimes bring a truckload of young boys to swim. -- among them his sons and the current Mayor, Billy Kenoi.
