Any opinions on the 3 runners for State Representative District 4?
Carmel, Hanohano, Stephens ?

I don't know anything about the other two, but Hanohano has done the bare minimum so far: she doesn't stay in communication with her district by responding to calls or emails, and has sponsored or cosponsored very little in the way of legislation. My impression is she is just a bench warmer.

Faye Hanohano has an excellent environmental record, is the only Big Island legislator in my knowledge to oppose Monsanto/GMO bills, and is an active member of the Hawaiian Caucus which got its act together this past session and helped pass long-needed legislation that supports the Hawaiian community. She is a native Hawaiian but not in the style of her cousin Emily Naeole; she is naturally reticent.

There is no Carmel running. You probably mean Hope Cermelj (final j silent). Stephens may be running as a Democrat, but all his comments are pure Libertarian cant (i.e., privatize almost everything, let the market decide, release businesses from restraints, etc.). I meant to ask him if he ever read "The Jungle" but never got the chance. Faye also strongly opposed the construction of new telescopes on top of Mauna Kea that were all permitted (or decision to permit)PRIOR to the passage of the long range comprehensive management plan.

Yes, I meant Hope Cermelj.
How does she compare to Hanohano?
Thanks much for your opinions.
