Now that I think about it, I want to say that the DQ was where the Black Rock is now.

The DQ in the PK mall closed and then re-opened I'm thinking I heard. I think it would be a good addition since there's really no place like that in this area.

There was a DQ in Keauu but it's been closed for quite a while. There is nothing good about KFC, Taco Bell or McDonald's. It's be nice to see a mom & pop restaurant in there. Maybe a meat & three type place with plenty of vegetarian options and local type specials. It would be cool if the ACE really expanded and became more of a general store. I am still stuck on the mainland and have plenty of shopping options but prefer my local ACE over all the big boxes that surround it. It has an awesome nursery, all sorts of outdoor living stuff, a really fun kitchen section, pets area, an in-store Benjamin Moore paint store, "work" clothes & boots, a ton of locally made decorative items including a small section of jewlery, candles etc that are local and I almost forgot, they have all that boring hardware stuff too. Something like that could serve a lot of needs in the area.

I remember the DQ in Pahoa when it was where the Black Rock is now. I cannot get too excited about another Dairy Queen. If the first one didn't work, why bring in another one? I would like to see some kind of a sit-down restaurant as an alternative to Kaleo's such as an Applebee's or a Chili's. It's fun to dream.

Maybe the Pharmacy from Malama marketplace can move, expand, and add a soda fountain. I could use an occasional bannana split.

It's kind of strange that there is no opposition to this on the forum here when there was a great deal of opposition before the current developments started. Do people now realize that its nice to have alternative places to shop that are closer to where they live?
Wish there was talk of such a development in HPP.
kind regards,
John

If it provides jobs, helps us out here save on gas and time, and good for the community then I'm excited to hear about this new shopping area! I know commuting into Hilo is hard for some folks so it'll be nice to have some jobs closer to where people live.
