Shindawa vs. Stihl

Well topic says it all which way would you go? I'm looking into purchasing a weed eater or maybe trading but don't have much experience, any opinions would be appreciated.

Stihl makes good equipment but you will likely find 20+ Shindaiwa weed whackers for every Stihl on the island.... at least in the hands of farmers and landscapers.

I have Stihl stringtrimmer and chainsaw, both over three years old, no issues.

No matter what brand you get, it's worth the drive to Mountain View for ethanol-free gas.

I finally retired my Stihl chainsaw after 30 years. Great saw. My Shindaiwa weed whacker never fails. Better yet are my Honda mower and power washer. I will never again own a Briggs and Stratton engine.

Honda indeed does a good job - I will not buy a generator unless its a honda eu series anything else is a waste of money in my experience -

Where to purchase? I'm not a fan of getting stuff shipped all over the world so more curious about somewhere on the Big Island.
I've heard so far it's worth it to go to Kona for a purchase like that, any opinions on the above?

Hmmm Got mine off Craigslist from a dude that works for garden exchange in hilo. I wouldn't rule out Echo.

I've owned both Stihl and now I have and use a Shindawa. I even got a gallon of ethanol free fuel even tho I'm certain that most people don't use it. I'm kinda wondering Home Depot sells this stuff (fuel additive) I got some makes up to 6 gallons you just put a little bit in the gallon of gas and I guess it helps with starts and what not. I dunno if I'm gonna buy ethanol free gas next time. I might if it were available in pahoa.

Additive or not, if you use gasohol, you will likely need to replace fuel lines, fuel filters and primer bulbs yearly, as well as cleaning the internal carb fuel screen. Echos are good machines. I've been using a couple of cheap Ryobi weed wackers for about 5 years with gasohol. Maintenance yearly due to gasohol as well as altering the carbs so the low and high screws can be adjusted. Due to gasohol I hate to get too invested in weed wackers and I consider the Ryobis disposable. But even they can be kept running if you're cheap and determined like me. I do love my little Echo chain saw, as well as my larger stihl, but they require yearly maintenance too. I hate gasohol but pure gas is not convenient to get. I wonder how much fossil fuel is wasted repairing and replacing crap ruined by gasohol.
