Probably most people around Pahoa would just prefer the whole building go away, it does kind of stick out. That isn't going to happen and it is about the franchise. Somebody owns that franchise and Taco Bell is the same corporate. The demographic is there for that switch but the flip side is twitch driving traffic increases at the intersections, bad enough as it is. It's too bad it's going to take that new shopping center, if it goes through, to turn that intersection into a proper + with pullout lanes.

KFC is way too expensive now. When I was a kid......blah blah blah
They make you choose between mashed potatoes and cole slaw with the individual meals or pay extra. Taters without cole slaw? Cole slaw without taters? No way. Then you have to pay extra. AND you don't get the drink with that?

I called Red Lobster and they're considering opening there (dreaming).

A Tony Romas with take out would be great. If they can have one in Acapulco, they can have one here.

Would be nice to see a mom & pop establishment there instead of a chain. A casual fish place or meat & veggie spot.

A local lady friend of mine has been approached to see if she wants her restaurant there...the rent is astronomical! She can't afford those prices.

Hopefully BK won't suffer the same fate. Not that I eat there a lot but it's nice to have another option. Will be interesting to see what happens next.

Carrie, can you put a number on the "astronomical" rent? And is that just "rent" or do the lease terms include "percentage of your gross" (as seems to be common around here).

It's funny how the developers/landlords just shoot themselves in the foot after a long expensive fight with the Planning and Building departments -- or is this just their attempt to recoup the high cost of permitting?
