Monsanto buys one of the Leading Bee Research Co's
#11
Hmm... All than most of us know about this sort of thing is what we read on the internet. Based on my own internet research, there is not yet a smoking gun, but there is a long history of theories being embraced prematurely and overzealously.

In this case the small company appears to be invested in the theory that CCD is caused by a virus, not chemicals. Monsanto should be happy. If it is the virus, it is not their chemicals.

I don't know the real answer. None of us do. In fact no one in the world does, or this controversy would not live on as it has. I fear that Monsanto's chemicals may play a part, but I don't know that they do. The opening salvo of this thread seems to present as known facts things which are only theories. Furthermore there is an undercurrent of anti-Monsanto zeal that carries the arguments over gaps in logic.

I think that the recent history of bees in Hawaii supports the theory that pests are to blame for most of the declines. We had a booming bee population in spite of monsanto, until bee mites and small hive beetles showed up. The declines of bees correlate strongly with the appearance of these pests, whereas on the mainland these pests go back decades and the overlap between them and GMOs and neonics clouds the issue.

Whenever this issue comes up people come out of the woodwork screaming "the end of humanity as we know it", seemingly ignorant of the fact that both Hawaii and the new world used to sustain high populations without european honeybees. My point is not that I want to start over without honeybees, but that as with so many other controversies there are so many unseen agendas that have to be filtered out and accounted for.

I hope people are suing Monsanto for wrecking health and livelihood for farmers. Of course, you'd need trillions to sue them.

Control the seeds and the bees, and Monsanto controls the world food supply. If they have nothing to hide, why steal and destroy 15 years of a beekeeper's research that would implicate Roundup? Why spend more that $19 million to stop prop 37 in CA to label (http://www.infowars.com/monsanto-pestici...l-prop-37/)? Why spend millions to stop OR labeling initiative? (www.organicconsumers.org/gefood/monsantovsOregon.cfm) What are they afraid of? I know many beekeepers here locally whose honey production has been reduced by more that half. Price of honey (real honey, not the sugary substance that is passed off for honey) has doubled.

"15 Years of Research Destroyed. Ingram believes the destruction of his bees and hives is more likely to be related to his research into the effect of Roundup on honey bees. He claims some 250 of his colonies have been killed off over the years by Monsanto's broad-spectrum herbicide, used in large quantities on both conventional- and genetically engineered crops. Ingram's research shows that Roundup can lead to what's called chilled brood, which is an entirely different scenario.

Over half of congress have actually been attorneys or been involved with Monsanto, including the supreme court justice Clarence Thomas, they have been controlling the food supply for decades through laws created by their lobby, I believe they figured out a slower way of genocide that can not be blamed in our justice system, we all know that this earth cannot sustain life with the population as it is and they know it as well. Google "Clarence Thomas attorney for Monsanto" to find the real truth of what we are dealing with in our food supply.
I am always seeking the true answers, let me know if you approve of Monsanto? they control society not us?

Have you considered the possibility that, as MarkP suggested, Beeologics is actually working on a theory that would exonerate Monsanto and that's why they want to help them as much as they can? That makes much more sense than the idea of some Evil Corproration buying up companies to silence them.

By the way YurtGirl, Monsanto's income and assets are measured in the billions, not trillions. Try to contain the hysteria (yes, I know what it used to mean). Do you still really think Monsanto "uses radiation, splicing fish genes into watermelon seeds", as you stated earlier?

If anyone thinks Monsanto really is an evil organization run by a bald guy with a cat, then please call your local member of Congress and demand they be stopped! Tell me what they say once they stop laughing.

A lot of the rap against Monsanto started in the 80's with genetically modified crops that didn't produce seed. The tin hat crowd picked this up as a "controlling the food supply" conspiracy. They said, start hoarding seeds because the day was coming when only Monsanto would have seeds for new crops.

Hello, has anybody heard of Naval Oranges? Or how about Seedless Watermelon? These people never heard of Luther Burbank or George Washington Carver? There is another crop, sinsemilla (a conjunction of the spanish "sin" (with out) and "semilla" (seed) to mean "without seeds"). This particular crop, you don't want to go to seed because it affects righteousness. And it is reproduced by taking cuttings, which can be done with many other plants.

Companies like Monsanto are dealing with a situation everybody is experiencing. We are seeing evolution in progress. Bacteria, viruses, and microscopic parasites are going through thousands of generations in a fraction of a human lifetime. Heard of necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria)? Or how about super staph in hospitals? Or vaccine resistant tuberculosis? Bacteria, viruses and parasites are Klingon, that is, that which does not kill them makes them stronger. When antiseptics and vaccines are 99.9% effective, that means 0.1% survive and modify themselves to be even more resistant. Companies like Monsanto are just trying to find ways to fight back. They can be blamed for not being more effective.

Or Monsanto may very well be Umbrella Corporation.

Makes sense, it takes native Hawaiian bees to pollinate native Hawaiian vegetation. And they are endangered, too.
