National Geographic Drugs Inc Hawaiian Ice
#1
National Geographic has a series going on called Drugs Inc, and they recently aired the Hawaiian Ice episode. Parts of it are on Oahu but it is mostly about the BI, and a large part in Puna. There are a lot of locals in it and if seeing close ups of people shooting up is upsetting, then don't watch it.

It provides some explanation why so many people in Puna complain about being sick and are so paranoid about everything. There are people that twitch due to multiple sclerosis and parkinson's disease, but ice twitchers have their own twitching behavior, very recognizable in large groups of average people. Watching the anti-geothermal videos, there are a lot of twitchers in the crowd plus recognizing them in Malama market and downtown Pahoa. This lifestyle is a primary reason for a lot of burglaries in the area. Just part of Puna life and I have heard from someone in Kona that it is much worse over in Oceanview.

Wow, someone just made a sweeping generalization that people who have health concerns about geothermal are just a bunch of paranoid strung out tweakers. Truly amazing how people will use anything to denigrate those who disagree with them, no matter how huge a stretch.

Yes, there is a lot of ice in Hawaii, particularly in low income areas like Puna, but to jump from that to assuming that the anti-geothermal testifiers are the same people as the meth abusers, with no concrete evidence, is to paint an entire group of people with a very broad brush.

Yeah, there was enough of a hinted generalization to "tweak" the anti-geothermal crowd. I'll do the shame on you finger thingy at pahoated. Otherwise, the "generalization" was indirect and soft enough to get a pass IMHO. There was also a lot of sad truth in the post. Plus, there was the humor value which, also IMHO, gives it a pass. Smiley face, smiley face!

where is this Puna ice??? Ive lived in Puna for 5 years now and have never been offered it ever, yet Ive been offered Pakalolo dozens of times..... When I was in Sonoma Co. NorCal, it was very common to be offered Meth and wasnt as looked down on as it is here...

I guess its the people I know in Puna, they tend to do more natural and health consious .... ie pakalolo, salvia, shrooms, ayahuasca,'awa, waiwi/noni wine, etc.

If you want to actually see what you are watching try this link instead. Much higher resolution.

I tried watching the first link and it was fuzzy and dedigitizing in places, switched to the second link and it was crystal clear. So I posted the second link. I don't have any idea why your experience might have been different.

Look up the symptoms of low level H2S poisoning and high level H2S poisoning. Look at people who were normally healthy, who certainly do not do ice and who have nervous system problems. This is a symptom of H2S poisoning. Nervous system damage.

To allow more geothermal in a highly active volcanic zone where she could pop up anywhere on the rift, where a large earthquake could cause gasses to vent and kill numerous people is insane. Or should I say insanely money driven. It is widely agreed that geothermal should be 10 miles away from inhabited areas. Not possible here in Puna.

OTEC at the National Energy Labs in Kona is producing energy through sea water heat exchange. They are already fueling all the companies at the labs. This is a technology that could be used all over the islands, so no need putting peoples lives in danger, no need cable to other islands.

If you have not, check it out.

Correct !!!

This is all off topic !

Since you took it off topic, I must comment that you have it backward!!

People shouldn't be living in such hazardous area and it should instead be used for industrial purposes like geothermal!!
