Wannabe Sheriff of Vacationland
#1
I witnessed a guy in a gold truck being extremely rude to a couple who were visiting the area. He falsely informed them that they were in a tow away zone and he was going to call the police on them. (They weren't parked illegally). He pretty much said they had no right to be there and they were trespassing and disrespecting the residents. The couple asked what exactly they were doing that was disrespectful, and when he just kept raving, they suggested that he should go ahead and contact the police. He then launched into an even more obscene(and homophobic)tirade and sped off.

I've been a resident of Puna Makai and visiting Vacationland for twenty five years and was extremely embarrassed by this ashhat's behavior. I realize how difficult it must be to live in an area that's attractive to tourists. I also appreciate the efforts that the community puts into educating visitors while protecting the tidepools and keeping them accessible. Mahalo.

This pilau man was presenting himself as some kind of official representative of the community and I just thought people should be aware of what's going on in their name.

Rant over.

I wonder if that person was born on the island maybe and feels some right to live here more than someone who wasn't? I'm not endorsing that train of thought just wish I knew more about this person you mention - that said I've had similar experiences when driving through Hawaiian acres - I'm guessing it comes down to them being all wacky super high on ice or something and paranoid your going to steal their crop or ruin their cook - or whatever drugs they're making / processing. Maybe gold truck guy just had a bad day and isn't involved in any type of drugs? Who knows but yeah I wouldn't be overly concerned about the tourists they're going to leave either way right?

Cheers

That doesnt sound like anyone who lives in our neighborhood especially the gold truck part but someone out in front has a kinda beige truck.

Did the "gold" truck have a ladder rack on it? Was the guy tall - about 6'4 or so? That might be one of the workers who drives the beige truck and works at one of the houses under construction.

But the owners of the truck are usually pretty nice to the tourists (porta potty is on their property.)
