New Restaurant in Kea'au
#1
I was in Kea'au today and found activity in the old Hokulani's place. I asked one of the workers if there was a new restaurant going in and he said it was going to be Italian and the name was along the lines of Pele's something or other..... How long will this one last?? [Big Grin]

Pele's Kitchen... I was looking at it a few days ago with the words crossed out tomorrow for grand opening. I guess they kept pushing the date forward. If you try it out let us know how good/bad it is.

Ooops I thought you mean Pahoa ... Smile Anyway... I doubt it's Pele's Kitchen. They moved down to Pahoa from Hilo.

I hope it's as good as Hokulani was. I really miss that place!

Aloha spelled backward...think about it.

Ah, yes, constantly "pushing the date forward" in the finest CoH tradition. Who knows, maybe it will still be Italian when it opens later this year...

Anyone remember when the building behind Keaau Shell was supposed to be a Blazin' Steaks?

kalakoa - I mentioned that in another recent thread about the Spoonful Cafe although my recollection is I was told it'd be a steak house rather than being told which company would own it - this was from the staff at the Shell gas station. That was two or three years ago.

The 3 sets of doors are now painted in red, white, and green respectively; those are the colors of the Italian flag, so my bet is on Italian.

Others recall the now-Spoonful having "coming soon" banners announcing a Blazin Steaks.

I recall the manager of the (now defunct) PKP Blazin Steaks telling me "yes, Keaau".

My assumption is that with the slow economy, Blazin Steaks didn't have enough money to go the distance -- hardly matters whether with landlord, suppliers, or County.

ZIPPY's & Napoleon's Bakery is coming to the Mall in Hilo summer.
I'd love another Italian Restaurant to choose from. There is a new one in Hilo but we
were going in and 3 guys sitting there smoking cigarettes and the place was filled with smoke.
We went elsewhere. Shame I really want to try that one. It is just up before the new Hilo McDonalds.
