If you have a dog

first let me say, the use of deadly force against a dog that is attacking is justified. The use of poison as a revenge is cowardly, disgusting, and if I could, I would subject the poisoner to the same treatment. If you wanted to poison the owner, I probably wouldn't give a s%$t. Is the life of a dog worth more than a humans, in many cases, you bet.

i heard what was very likely a dog fighting ring going on this past weekend within 100 yards of a friends house. it was going on for a couple hours before midnight and there was a lot of aggressive dog snarling/barking at times and coordinated cheers going on. (both of us were 100% sober btw) i sure hope im wrong, but id bet 100 im not. it was unlike any party ive ever heard goin on in my life. im new to the area, so have no idea how widespread this is or if law enforcement even cares. im just a huge dog lover and its unnerving having this going on around here ya know? sad... again, i hope im wrong, and obviously could very well be, but in case im not...

suggestions?

If it was a dogfight, good possibility it will be held at a different location next time.
it is difficult to know who to trust here, to many family connections.
You could contact Frannie Pueo, for suggestions.

If you feel that strongly about the human at the root of all these problems I suggest you go confront Tom's neighbor and "do what needs to be done". However for all our talk and bluster, it sounds like Tom and his neighbors have dealt with the problem in one of the only practical ways, by working through the system however much work that takes and however long it takes. That was the point of my earlier posts about documentation anyway.

It is interesting Dick that your strongly expressed sentiment is based on a desire for humane treatment of dogs whereas the prevailing sentiment in Hawaii of "mess with my dog and you mess with me" is more of a staking out turf thing rather than an expression of care for the animal.

I think you exactly nailed it, sadly.

So MarkP, my attitude about the cowardly scum who poison animals is a result of living in Hawaii. Let me set you straight, any low-life who would poison a pet, or engage in dog fighting deserves the same one-way trip to that lava tube. Poison my dog and you are poisoning a member of my family and you had better pray the cop's get you before I do. The results would definitely not be in your best interest. That is not bluster that is a God-D*** promise.

I am honestly confused by the tone of your response Dick. I offered what I thought was a sincere, harmless, and relatively flattering observation that you were different than the average yokel who gets tough about dogs. It was brought on by the general observation that threatening people's dogs comes with a cost. In Tom's case that cost comes from some ***hole who clearly lives to intimidate others, is willing to put his dog at risk to do so, and has gone to great pains to give the impression that Tom had to just take it or else, while in your case it is because you care about dogs. I have to admit that I again chose my words poorly because I now see that "it is interesting that" sounds like code for sarcasm. That is not what I intended. I assume now that you inferred from my post that I think you speak as you do because you are one of those yokels and that you now have to set me straight.

I honestly think that it is counterproductive to voice such strong sentiments when the people who are living through this problem are the ones who have to live with it and may not feel in a position to rashly throw their weight around. I have already gotten in trouble for seeming to not side with the victims here. I have offered the observation that if it came down to it, if kids and other innocent people were truly at risk, then given the big picture that includes having to deal with a crazy b*****d who is behaving criminally and using his dog as a weapon of intimidation, I would approve of whatever method gets the job done. I still feel that way and cowardice has nothing to do with it. I admire Tom and his neighbors for pursuing what I consider the best, albeit most taxing and frustrating, course of action in going through the proper channels.

I think I am a pretty reasonable guy, and generally I am a really nice, generous and loyal guy. How is it then that you see fit to threaten me with death and being thrown down a lava tube?

Once again the differences in face to face communication and internet communication cause more confusion than communication. Everyone posting on this topic might need to just take a deep breath and remember to reread your post before you hit send.

So let me get this straight.

If your dog consistently comes onto my property, for the last several months now, and in a threatening, attacking manner, and we have had several discussions about this, and your dog also attacked the landlord of the property you are renting, and at times, when you come home, you scream at the top of your lungs “**** you bitch” and do nothing to restrain your dogs from attacking passersby, or any of the other neighbors – its ok for me to kill your dog by any means except I can’t poison it??
