We have 4 Kindles, one of each except the very new one. I can comfortably read for the first time in years. I am pretty sure you can find a setting that is comfortable size for you. The pages turn fast and the resolution is good. If I had to pick one of the four I would pick the paper white one so you can read in the dark.

The Fire is to heavy (in my opinion)to use long term if you have to hold it to read like a book. The advertising does not pop up while you are reading, it is always there only when powered down. You can pay I believe $10 extra and get that function turned off.

The Fire also has a lot of functions that has nothing to do with reading, by Brother in Law is blind and he uses his to listen to Audio Books. I have a music library on mine too.

Hope this helps.[8D]

There are also a ton of free books available, and if you become a Prime Member you get to borrow a book a month, new releases usually too. Also with prime you can stream free movies to you computer or an Internet ready TV or like I have a Roku player. Also free shipping on other stuff too, even to Hawaii, just not 2 day like the mainland.[:p]

The paperwhite is what I was interested in buying, but since my friend is sending one I will see how that goes, Smile

Pam, free audiobooks are another option. 6 thousand+ are free at www.librivox.org. I've loaded up every old iPod I can get my paws on with free audiobooks. Love it and it saves my neck/back trying to read in bed. Now I get to have someone else read me a bedtime story, lol.

Cute. Pat of it is the reading art though. As I recover from brain surgery and radiation treatment and the rest, I am trying to work my brain reading. It seems to be helping. It allows me to focus, track a thread. My short term memory is a real problem with all the fluid on the brain but I have a shunt to drainit and am up 14+ hours a day so it is daining better I think. Everyone's thoughts, ideas and information are wonderful. Thank you all.

You should also be aware that there is an enormous library of out-of-print books available online as e-books. Probably most all classic books (anything published before 1927) as well as many obscure works. The mobi format works on Kindle (the Kindle proprietary format is just the mobi open-source format with Amazon's copyright protection, so the Kindle can read mobi; epub is for Nook).

The site is: http://archive.org/details/texts

Searching there picks up books scanned by Google Books so you can download them easily.

I had a friend that regained a lot of damaged brain function from a stroke by playing concentration on her computer, her issue was also short term memory. She was a labor attorney so short term memory was critical for her to return to work and Concentration stimulated all the right neural pathways. Good luck.

Maybe a forum section could be set up here to allow others to borrow/lend books they already have read? I have never done lending before but it should be pretty easy. Anybody know an Admin?[Big Grin]
