However, no one has been told those cuisines were going to be offered there, and Royall was told it was going to be Italian. To my mind, the paint scheme confirms the rumor.

You left out Mexico, a major culinary power, but I'm pretty sure Royall and Carol are correct.[

Have no idea of what the Hokulani place....
But about the 2 other new restaurants in Keeau:
Have been to Spoonful Cafe - nice Thai - nothing extraordinary for here, but the decor is nice & service was very friendly & efficient & prices are in line with most Thai here
Also found out that Jus`Pound replaced Vernas - they have good prices, decent food & nice inside & outside seating - located in the shopping center across Keaau Inter, w/ Alibi, Keaau Buy & Sell. Their Website:

We ate at Spoonful and enjoyed it. The service was terrific. I had the pineapple curry which looked and tasted great. I was surprised they didn't ask us how spicy I wanted it, but it was mild enough for me. If you like yours fiery, you might have to speak up. They also had some "local" choices, Cory went for the fish, and said the potato/mac salad was the bet he has had. The menu was a bit limited, but had enough variety that most people can find something good.

Was in Keaau yesterday to finish off the laundry drying, & noticed that the new restaurant is opened! NATIVE steak & pasta... (or pasta & steak...or something like that) has been for a week...
Lunch & dinner... hamburgers, chicken & pasta - burgers under $10, the rest in the $11-$17ishy range....
Looks pretty much the same as the last few, as the furnishings are part of the rent...... seemed to have a lot of servers & nobody there...(too bad we were heading into Hilo for Graham Hawkes' talk on marine submersible flight in the Humpback sanctuary..., could have given a more in depth report...but were just there for the dryers!)
ADDED: Went there - Had meat Ravioli w/alfredo & Spag. w/ marinara... both good pastas
They do also have fish & steaks... in that price (well, fish is mkt price) good hale salad, "decent" minestrone... all in all, the pasta dishes were good, nothing spectacular, but the taste & size of portions were good, nicely spiced...
no liquor (rumor from a couple shops down, same mgt as before, lost liquor lic. but could not get out of lease...how true??? I dunno!)
Very quick service... waiter checked back a few times throughout the meal (ya, I know that is not noteworthy...but here, ya it is!) live music started at 6 & was nice & low volume...even inside...
