Needing an affordable rental in Waimea for 3 weeks
#1
Aloha Puna Webbers,
Does anyone have any leads on a rental in or near Waimea from late April - mid May? Ideally it would be furnished, can be rustic if it's got the basics, running water, electric. Looking for something around $500 for the duration. Any ideas?

Hi there, I stayed at this rental in Waimea over New Year's, it's a very nice place, but maybe more than you want to spend...

The owners are very nice...good luck!

Thank you, Dot. That place looks nice but those are definitely tourist rates. Not bad for tourist rates though! Maybe I will give a call and see about kamaaina rates.

I've never heard Waimea and cheap in the same sentence. I had wanted to move there when I first came to Hawaii but could not afford it.

True that, Seeb! We can do outlying areas too. Honokaa... Kalopa...

Wish I had some of whatever you're smoking!

I've saved that one, Dot. It looks great from the photos.

My sister rents-out her Carolina Beach, North Carolina condos thru VRBO, and uses them for her own trips; she's always been positive about them.

I personally like what you said about the owners, Dot. That means a lot.

Did a quick Google and $500 will just about get you 3 weeks in a hostel.
Looking forward to reading results of this quest.

Maybe cheaper to rent and commute from Honokaa. Not that far.

$500 for three weeks for local short term renters doesn't sound out of bounds to me, Rainy Jim. We have family in that area that rents for that much. But their place is taken. Thanks for that positivity though...?

Yeah, terracore, I'm thinking Honokaa will be most likely. Or if a sublet comes up where people don't necessarily want tourists staying. Or a family who has an Ohana house or studio and don't want to rent all the time but maybe could use a bit of extra for a short term. Plenty of scenarios where this could work well, I've already gotten a couple calls.
