In other words, "responsive to the needs of the community" -- sadly, this ethic seems to be in very short supply; our local government is very "responsive", just not to "our needs".

For what it is worth, there was just as much complaining about unresponsive, ineffective, and too expensive local government there as here. I still read the local paper there online, and the letters to the editor and comments on articles read just like the anti-government rhetoric we see posted on blogs, forums and comments on articles in the paper here. The anti any and all government crowd seems to be the same everywhere. The biggest difference is the whole local/Hawaiian vs haole/immigrant from the mainland component doesn't happen there, instead it is "go back to California".

Well, at first I wasnt going to reply to "morningstar" (probably best course), but then I got curious as to how someone who is out in our community would be expecting to be hearing perfect english here. In fact, I was considering writing back in pidgen or Hawaiian, but it may take me a few years to perfect that...
So, all I have to say at this point is that I am running around after kids all day and I am proud to say that I at least take an interest in current events, and who really cares if the english is perfect on blog anyhow?? Furthermore, english is a constantly evolving language and certain acronyms, or whatever, are always popping up that I have to figure out what they mean. For instance "true that". Or "DNK". It's all about mental flexibility IMHO. I mean, we dont still speak in "Old English" (shakesperean writings). Somehow the language evolved from there and so what is acceptable in one decade will change into the next and that is meant to be the way he world goes. Same goes for punctuation and grammar.

I didn't know we had a new sheriff in town. I guess Paul W. is running Rob's forum now.

I'm not sure if this link to the Hawaii County aquatic programs guide will work or not:
http://records.co.hawaii.hi.us/Weblink8/...Page1.aspx If it doesn't work, type in "Hawaii County aquatics" in your browser and click on any of the pool names. You'll get a multi-page guide that tells the lap swim and public recreational swim hours at each of the county pools. Of course, since the Pahoa pool isn't open right now, there is no schedule posted. When it was open, though, there were separate times for adult lap swims and recreational swims, just as there are at the other pools. If someone is unhappy with the lack of programs for kids, why not contact the head life guard or the county? BTW, there is info on the county website about the summer swim classes that will start in May. Apparently our pool won't be open by then but the NAS pool in Hilo has many classes for kids if you don't mind the drive to Hilo.

quote: Thank you so much PC. Ditto from me. Seems like an overabundance of angry people here. I don't get it. Kwitchurbelliachin (Ha, spell check that one). I love Punatalk & I love living here. Yes, there is a lot to deal with, but if I hated "it" all that much, I'd go live where I could be happier. So anyone think talking to Greggor Ilagan could help? Maybe have a community meeting?

I guess Brats was a bad term to use around here. Ruffled feathers or what?
Ya know Brat is a military term. But I use the term now for: A child, typically a badly behaved one. Anyway.... Sorry, I guess I kinda got the ball rolling on this... I didn't mean to make a mountain out of a moll hill. Oh well... I hope the pool does re-open soon. As my G/F and I want to go swimming and it's friggen 85 degrees right now so cold water would be nice. I hope the solar heater is only used for COLD days and they don't bring the water up too warm ... after all... I know people want to chill at the pool. Will be interesting to see how warm it gets on those chilly mornings. Stay safe and have a great day!

I thought this post was about pools.
Don't pee in them. Follow the fat lifeguard's rules. Make your kids behave. That means no pee. Brats are best served on a bed of sauerkraut with a side of mustard. Everyone is plenty happy. If this gets you worked up, you're not living Aloha. |
