The idea that parents get to just let others be responsible for supervising there children is absurd. You need a break, get a baby sitter, but not on my dime. Don't want to follow the rules, stay out of the pool.

What does this have to do with peeing in the pool?

I think you could make a case where the post is related to the thread, but who cares. It's been an entertaining thread but good judgement, courtesy and common sense was threatening to ruin it.

Is it against the rules to pee in the pool? Cause if marco polo has been banned, peeing in the pool should be. What about taking bong hits and swimming laps of butterfly? I wonder what Phelps thinks of that?

Wow, ya don't look at a thread for a few days &....WOW

1. The pool closing is for repairs AND compliance issues.... EVERY pool in the county has had to undergo these compliance issues (Federal regs mandate the upgrades of the pool filter covers...) & most have had major repairs at the same time (Pahoa is the last...surprised no one complained that it was the LAST!!!)

2. Many pools across the country limit pool toys, floaties, games that involve "hiding" underwater ((ie Marco Polo)... heck many BEACHES that have restricted access have regulations against some of this...

3. Many public pools DO have a restricted access - this county does not (many have an entrance person that checks ID, pool pass or charges...believe or not, most likely there was some compliance statement you gave to get a pool pass!, unlike the pools in this county)

4. If anyone really wants to start a program, like a family swim, all they need to do is create a program, this may need a syllabus, insurance for the person/people in charge, & having volunteer or paid staff to administer.... submit to the Aquatics program and hope that the program is accepted....

How do I know?....after a few decades of guarding on & off (and though started more buff, yea, part of that time being a oxymoron guard!) I wanted to see programs offered that were not in the public pools...& created a program that is still taught to thousands of children in public pools (and private pools & school pools...) every year....but mainland....not here....yet....

Can you play marco polo in a family swim program? Do we need to agree to rules in the syllabus and with the insurance companies, or can we just make them up as we go?

Not sure if I dare jump into the fray again (or the pool), but "Marco Polo" involves being above the water and shouting, "Marco" with your eyes closed, and then the other people yelling "Polo". It has never struck me as a particularly dangerous game.

YES! Games that are played in an organized way normally do have well defined rules & guidance to the children! And yes, most organized games have a lot of insurance, liability, informed consent by the child's adults.

Hide'n'seek is also thought of by many fondly, however I am sure many have heard of the rare cases of disaster, when a child hides in a very dangerous place, like an old refrigerator...

with Marco Polo, there are a few variants that can lead to dangerous scenerios, one variant of the game has the "Marco" going underwater to countdown....& shallow water blackout has occurred, another has the "Polo" children splashing water at the "Marco"...some with kickboards....which can escalate in a charged game...

and children interactions in this district & county have had enough incidences of charged interactions in the past that it would be irresponsible for the county NOT to look at safety first in the pool!

ADDED: Remember, in this county, there is NO informed consent needed for children to play in the pool... there is no gate keeper & there is no way a parent or guardian can always give consent when their child is at the pool...

Although many of us would like to believe that everyone is nice & good to children, that is not always the case. Any adult and/or child can enter during open swim...that alone puts the county in a position that they MUST be able to have as safe a scenario as possible...

Another way to say it is how would you limit who can play in group in open pool time? How would the guards know that there was a potential for safety of any child was endangered (and with a mix of children & adults... that gets ever dicier....)
