Does anyone know when the traffic on the highway by the zoo is going to end? I tried to get to HPP from Hilo today to do a job around 2PM and just gave up. I'm not going to spend an hour and a half in traffic.
Leave it to the powers that be to do highway work during Merry Monarch.

There was a LOOOOONG delay, this work started in the latter months on 2012 & there has been little done this year, until this week - gosh...if I were a more cynical soul, I would say the recent work is Merrie Monarch inspired... yet, to put all of those visitors & haluas that plan a visit to Halema`uma`u through that "contra-flow" seems to be a total weirdness (plus we have had one of the better winter seasons to have done this topping work....)
re-starting it this week, with the schools back in session, overcast every day & a major visitor festival seems...odd... but that is the way it is...

I think it's the contra-flow thing that is causing the massive traffic jam. I don't recall it being this bad before now. It was backed up all the way to KTA today.

Especially "ironic" considering that this re-paving wouldn't be necessary if the last re-paving were done correctly.
I saw the "congestion", and it looked to be mostly "local", hardly any rental cars, so at least the contraflow didn't "inconvenience" the almighty tourists.

The repaving doesn't seem necessary anyway, at least at the moment. They're repaving the best section of road, while the part between KS and the Keaau junction continues to get more and more cratered.
Why can't this work be done - AT NIGHT!
Oh, that makes too much sense!

Well they got money to spend ... So that's what they are doing. But I agree ... When are they going to start paving the other side?
