Car Storage

Hello All!

I just bought a car and will be renting for the next 6 months or so on island. The thing is I work 3 weeks off, 3 weeks on, up on the North Slope of AK. I Don't have a home yet, and I plan on renting in a different neighborhood each 3 week hitch so I can get a feel for them. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for places to store my car in between hitches?

Do you want it stored close to the airport ? (ie, how are you going to arrange the airport to car storage thing)
There are U-Store it type places all around, a couple are fairly close to the airport (if you don't mind the looong walk to the entrance....

Are you looking at indoor secure storage, outdoor secure storage, or its more of a liability only car, so you are not as concerned about the security?

Are you looking for a great deal, close to_____, or some other angle that will impact the selections?


heck if you are not too particular, I am sure there are folks here that have offered a spot on their drive, as we have in the past... but that might not be what you are requesting

ADDED: Are you adverse to just paying the parking....as that is another option, and the car is there, waiting for you....(although pricey, it may be not much different than a secure storage area that will charge for the 3 weeks you store, and most likely the 3 weeks you are here...as most don't have 3 week on, 3 week off deals + the price to get between the car/airport on each trip)

ADDED 3: at least the airport website states there is no monthly rate.... I would definately call the parking phone # before I leave the car after paying someone for "monthly" parking beforehand (usually there is no attendant at the entrance anyhow, so you would need to contact someone before... airport weblink:

I'd be open to anything. It's a basic Island car, so I am not too concerned about it's security. I have seen the places near the airport. I would also be open to keeping it at someone's place. I just wonder if anyone has any ipt of the ordinary recommendations, one's I may not be thinking of.

I would ask Hilo Airport how much it costs to park long-term there.

There is "monthly parking" at Hilo Airport at $165.00 per month. You got to buy at least the first month up front - as in the day you come to the airport, you can't claim it after you come back!

I would recommend buying additional months if you know for sure you will be gone - but that is just my own personal preference only because - well - this is Hilo!

I would find someone to store it on their property and be willing to pick you up at the airport when you arrive. I wouldn't mind doing that gig. You know helping out a punaweber ...
