Rim Restaurant
#1
Has anyone eaten dinner at The Rim Resturant at the referbrerished Volcano House Inn at the national park? How was it? It gets pretty mixed reviews on tripadvisor.com I am looking for someplace nice for a special anniversary. Any suggestions?

Food and service were good; suggest making reservations for ~1h before sunset.

I just ate there last week. The food was great and service was OK. We had a reservation and got a window seat with a great view of the crater and a beautiful Mauna Loa sunset. I had the stuffed chicken breast and my husband had the lamb chops. We loved both and we are pretty picky eaters. Most of the was locally sourced which is important to me. Oh, and we shared the pork pizza pupu. The Mai Tai was excellent as well. It's pricey but it was worth it. I should add that we have dined there twice in past years and it is a totally different place.

Always worth it for the view. It is not nearly as "homey" as it used to be. Food is good but expensive.

Heading there next week. Thanks for the info. Will make reservations in advance. Did anyone notice if they had filet mignon or prime rib on the menu?

The pictures look great on the website! I remember how sad it looked when it was closed.....

Ate there a coupla weeks ago w/a dozen ladies. All the food was good, service okay. No bread....said they were still trying to get a contract for that ...? Had to wait despite reservations.

The saddest thing is that despite having an incredible setting, the Volcano House is now sterile....no personality. The wonderful alii paintings are gone and they refuse to light the fireplace. And I've heard terrible stories about how things are imposed because of the HVNPark supervisor...

We visited the hotel and had a walk through. Actually, I liked the appearance. The view is spectacular! And the meals are pricey...too
I won't be eating there.
But about the appearance...It is simple but not bland. It took me back to the original time it was built. I enjoyed the walk back in time.
