1) Compassion for all? Where is your compassion for the native birds. I would bet the native bird population near the cat "colony" is zero. I live my life with compassion. In this instance my compassion lies more strongly with the native birds. Even when compassionate, sometimes hard choices have to be made. In this instance the feral cats are vermin, much like the rats they are claimed to control and as such need to be eradicated.
2) You are the one that suggested we kill humans:
"If we are going to kill species that are destructive to the environment, I think we should start with number one - humans." Although some of our practices have been destructive to the environment I don't see that as conducive to the evolutionary perpetuation of our species.
3) I respect your right to reject Judaeo-Christian beliefs. But then by what definition of sacred do you hold all life to be?
4) I hold all life to be sacred but accept our responsibility to manage it, especially where our meddling has already upset the natural balance.
5) I do eat meat (especially now that I'm doing Atkins) but as far as I know I haven't eaten cat, but ya never know as I love Chinese.
6) In this thread my "love of guns" is irrelevant other than as one possible method of infestation eradication. It was my attempt at humor led to that minor posting in the thread. I'm fully aware a more politically acceptable method would be chosen, and I'm fine with that.
7) I don't know if I'm an evolutionary step backward, probably. I recognize that my father was a better man that I.
8) Big cats can be the pinnacle predator in an ecosystem, so absent humans they could be dominant, who knows.
9) I was required to wear a cowboy hat for many years, although compliance was often an issue. However, I'm no cowboy, I don't ride a horse and I know little about cows, other than that I usually prefer medium rare.
10) I try to be a "real man" but I accept that I fall far short. I have many shortcomings in that regard.
I suppose I should edit to add that I like cats as pets. I've had a (as in one at a time) pet cat most of my life. I don't have one now as Jessica passed away last year.
