Never eat a cat -- any kind of cat -- whether you love them or hate them, cats have an incredible digestive system; they don't get sick from eating rotten roadkill, which means you'll probably get sick from eating them.

Eating a cat ....hmmmmm a quick wiki claims 4 million cats a year meet their end in China on the way to the dinner table. "Warming food" does that translate to "comfort food" ... meow.....
With the advent of more visitors from China - a locally sourced fast "ethnic food" drive through or HNL food stand a future possibility as well - Puppy mills still legal in this state - what the heck.... The Swiss and Peruvians having an appetite for kitty fricassee as well it seems

may be a good idea to keep all those ferals out on the breakwater rock after all ...... as emergency rations..... (named my ship's cat E.R.)

Oink, you're a pip. I'm gonna read all that? Ha Ha. You don't have to pay attention to me either.
As far as cats and birds are concerned, of course this is a complex issue. One's morals and ethics are constantly being challenged by circumstance. I certainly don't expect or need anyone to understand my point of view. In my life, killing is never the answer. Call me anything you want, but I don't even swat mosquitoes. I don't think killing or violence of any kind are ever the answer although I am not perfect in this regard. As caretakers, we, as humans have a responsibility to fix what we break. We are all responsible.
Of course cats kill birds and yes, sometimes they kill for what someone called fun. It's their nature and how they survive so well. They will long outlive us. Far more damage to our bird populations is being done by us. Extinctions (five since I've been here) are caused by humans so why not kill us as well. Another extinction is now inevitable and was preventable until fairly recently. But the hunters insist on having their ungulates for sport on the slopes of Mauna Loa where the palila live. All it would have taken was a fence but the hunters are paid well to take tourists and to point to where they can kill a sheep. Killing cats at the dump will be nothing but sport. If that's what turns you on, admit it but don't pretend you are curing the problem.

Jackson, if "ALL life is sacred" (your emphasis, not mine) then what do you eat, if not things that were previously living and killed for your eating pleasure?

PaulW, are you really serious? Please. Do you really want to know what I eat? Or are you just being an ass?
I have no problem with what you or anybody else eats. If you want to eat animals that is entirely your business. Why does what I choose to eat bother you?

You said ALL life is sacred. ALL. Does this apply to plants? They are alive too, you know.
If it does apply: then what do you eat if it's not plants or animals? Rocks?
If it doesn't apply: then would you like to revise your statement and agree that some life is more "sacred" than others?
If you say you don't eat plants or animals then YES I do want to know what you eat. Out of scientific curiousity.

I take it from your evasive answers that you do eat plants and therefore not ALL life is sacred.
There are degrees of importance. In Hawaii, native birds take precedence over feral cats.
It is our obligation to stop the latter killing the former.

@jackson,
If you won't kill so much as a mosquito to save another species or life then I don't think you can have realistic objective input to offer on the topic. I suppose you would not favor eradication of the axis deer to preserve native wildlife. Or for that matter killing brown tree snakes before they establish breeding colonies that can't be eliminated, if found to have arrived. I guess the snakes would have to be humanly captured and returned to their origin and I'm not sure where that would be. They didn't originate from Guam. Lolo! Or perhaps it's just cats that get such unyielding protection.
