The June 19th HPPOA Board of Director meeting was like an episode of the Jerry Springer show. This Board as a whole demonstrates a clear dereliction of duty to this community and to each other and has no direction or control over the meetings. And then there are the Owners, some have valid issues but have no tack in getting their concerns conveyed and have no idea of how creepy they allow themselves to behave. I see a huge liability here and actions that border criminal - lets get it together people! Have you forgotten the meaning of the word PARADISE???

And this is a surprise . . . because? I've been living in HPP for over 11 years now, and it never gets better no matter who's on the board or who the manager is. Significant numbers of the more reasonable people only get motivated to participate when things get desperately bad, such as when the current BOD president and manager floated a proposal to do a huge assessment to satisify the dust complaints by paving all the roads. The recent election was handled in a clearly unethical way by having the BOD president being in charge of it when she was a candidate. She was asked to recuse herself, but refused. She ended up getting back in by drawing the longest straw after a tie vote of 72-72, so it seems HPP can't even catch a break on a game of chance tie breaker! We must be cursed. And that 144 vote turnout works out to be about 16% of the 900 eligible property owners. There's a General Membership meeting on Sunday, June 30 at 3 p.m., but only go for the entertainment value because the BOD routinely ignores resolutions passed by the members with which they disagree. Only a lawsuit will produce some real changes, and that will only be temporary unless more people pay attention to what is going on.

I do agree, the board is pathetic, really now more than ever.
It amazes me that in a situation where they could very clearly actually try to help this community and move it forward, nearly every member is all about self-serving personal gains and private agendas. (Like being on 'top' matters at HPPOA - how far up is that??)
It's wildly crazy, not only this sophomoric (sophomoronic) behavior, but the consistency with which it continues to exist.
In the end, the HPPOA Board is going to F&^%K up our situation to the extent that living here will not be financially viable for a LOT of people.
Is there a way we can just frickin' clean house? Wipe the slate? Kick these lame@$$es out??? Start over?
Not sure how to do that, but there must be some way??? (He says in a very hopeful tone of voice....)
They frustrate me no end. And will end up costing me a lot of $$, not to mention the continuing heartache of dealing with them.

Yes there is a way, but its not easy... get enough people to come and vote them out.

I just learned that there will be a recall effort made against four of the most consistently lame board members. Before anyone gets their hopes up, just be aware that it takes 200 property owner signatures on a petition to initiate a recall. That is way more than typically vote in elections, so what are the chances?

Chunkster, please keep me (us) informed on this, despite the long shot.
I know that most of my friendship circle here in the Park routinely ignores the board because they suck so bad. But if they knew there was a chance to turn it around and have the board positively integrate into the community, they would definitely vote.

People that complain and suggest that the board should be replaced are perhaps a little out of touch with reality. As someone who has been to the board and membership meetings I applaud anyone who agrees to represent the interest of the HPP owners. Do people really think there are very many smart, successful people with great leadership abilities that would be willing to take on the HPPOA responsibilities. Easy to complain about the board and their ineffectual abilities but very hard to get good unpaid people to fix the incredible mess that was created when our Puna subdivisions were formed!

For the record I do respect people who take on these positions. Though I'm not so convinced about the possible motivations, but whateva...
So, what happens when the board moves in a direction against a vote just passed?
Or uses obvious conflicts of interest to possibly manipulate outcomes of situations or events?
I for one am not asking them to 'fix' a grandfathered-in mess. I am asking them to take the will of the people forward (I attend, I vote, I see voting results), since we are dealing with just such stuff.
You do have a good point regarding smart, successful leadership types of people. Most of those are not willing to be on this board.
Not sure why that is....
Lastly, define leadership, please. Is that the official role of HPPOA? I'm not sure, so just asking.
