I wasn't given a list, but I was told they were most upset with those who supported the BOD president's refusal to recuse herself from supervising an election where she was a candidate. That would rate as "lame" in my world. It goes deeper than that, but it's a good starting point and fresh enough to be quite current.
@davidr: The odd thing is that I've seen people who I considered to be "smart, successful people with great leadership abilities" get elected to the BOD only to become ego-driven and obsessed with maintaining their control. As rainshadow so aptly put it, "Like being on 'top' matters at HPPOA - how far up is that??" I really don't get it, but I've seen it over and over. I'm not only slightly joking when I say we are cursed.

Since the Lords of Oahu will never allow the only real solution – becoming a municipality. We have to stop the people that actually live here from getting dump on constantly. Developers holding a bunch of lots and offshore owners can throw any vote of the association. Which is not a home owners association because maintenance of the roads and common areas were the only powers given to it by the court, talk of imposing CCR's is totally illegal.
I think we need to form some kind of Residents group to portect the interest of the people that live here.

...and that group should be Puna-wide, not just HPP.

What was witnessed on the 19th was utter frustration OF HOMEOWNERS....with..a board that can do nothing other than "keep the pots from boiling over" and hidden from view.
One fellow, that had the floor for a long time , a friend, a good man, is at his wit's end with not being heard.
First letter...October 19, 2009......"a friendly reminder that you will need to provide dust control when grading the road in front of my home"
March 2010....another letter. Jan. 25, 2011.....another letter. Total of 4 letters. And then, add Trips to the office, phone calls. Get the picture?
WHAT IS HIS RECOURSE? HE'S A CONTRACTOR....HE KNOWS THE LAW AND THAT HE CAN FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE CAB IN HONOLULU. He knows how to sue and is not shy about it.
He tried, ONE MORE TIME , to be heard by our association leadership on the 19th.
I believe only 1 board member appeared to be interested......our Vice President.
Could this attitude possibly have contributed to our violations with the CAB?
And now, we have the election process questions.
I find nothing in our bylaws that were violated by a board member , involving herself in official capacity while at the same time being a candidate in the election...AND THIS IS A NEEDED CHANGE TO OUR BY-LAWS.
The mere fact that she CHOSE not to recuse herself and delegate the election oversight to another board member, was extremely bad judgement. Her involvement , at the very least, resulted in APPEARANCE OF PERSONAL ORGANIZATIONAL GAIN which has brought further angst and divisiveness. There was another explosion......this one is in the interpretation
of CONFLICT OF INTEREST (section 14 on page 6) How do you read this ????...DO YOU KNOW OUR EMPLOYEE SITUATION? ...then go to page 14, section 11. DOES THIS BOARD even address this? the word is "SHALL" ....."THE BOARD SHALL ANNUALLY ADOPT A CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY...."
there's a bylaw.......upheld by POLICY.....RIGHT???? A policy that clarifies the bylaw if need be. Is this done????? NO !!!
DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY YEARS THIS CONFLICT OF INTEREST QUESTION HAS BEEN ON THE TABLE?
Some on the Board are quick to point out behavior. Rightly so.....
But I say......look at the cause.

Kalakoa - HPP has specific legal issues that only the landowners in HPP are involved in and have standing. Above and beyond the issues common with the rest of puna

I disagree: HPP is merely "further along" with these issues, and the coming legal battle(s) will set precedent which affects all of Puna.

Since these people are unpaid volunteers, elected by the community; I think anger and frustration aimed at them is way off the mark.
Try and find community members who are too busy to run for office, or vote, and blame them.
