More air monitors for PGV is on the front page of the Tribune Herald today
Maybe they are reading "Punatalk" as that was a subject that was referred to in this post :http://www.punaweb.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16601
Now we need to find out the brand that they considered and purchased, then a few of us who can afford them should buy them -maybe PGV will calibrate them for us as well since they would like to be helpful in guarding our air quality and the safety of our first responders(fire department). They bought 8 hand held monitors for about 4500$ so that's about $ 560 and some change each.

Bob, I wondered about that too.
You live so close (guess I do too!), I like your idea of making them responsible to provide cheap monitors and also calibrate them regularly. There you go...a new job created, right?
(I haven't read the paper yet and the Tribune won't let me see articles on-line for free.)

If Bobs handle is accurate, Opihikao can hardly be considered close to PGV! Nevertheless, the plant itself uses the Gas Buddy brand/model of personal monitor for their employees. Last check was about $500 and easy to calibrate at home.
Nothing left to do but

My first reaction: some "involved citizens" should be running monitors to keep "them" honest -- I have little reason to trust "their" numbers, but if "we" don't collect "our own" there's no way to be sure.

All I'll say is: you can read the paper online for free if you use the right browser.

It's government. If they are paying $560 each for monitors, a private group should be able to do a bulk buy for $250 each.
