How about if u dream of a deck and wanted to whimsically add playground slide and aluminum bleachers in place of conventional stairs. and what composite 4x4's can use for understructure?

Sun is new, so probably does not know who you are, but obviously wants to move away from Waikiki, and into a Puna of ....well, most likely old tales that Sun has heard...but the reality is, Puna HAS changed from tales of yore... most likely Sun does not KNOW of the 'House of Cards"or many of the other things mentioned here...and thinks there are a whole lot of "lobbyist" here in Puna...

Speaking of House of Cards, if you haven't watched it on Netflix, you are missing out. Of course, thats just my opinion.

Exactly: internet availability is far more important than "permits" or "inspections".

I have been through the whole Hawaii County owner/builder/permits/inspections and survived....netflix is much better....

Don't know who you are but you sure seem to think you know me. No, the lobbyists are where they do the most good for their wealthy overlords wherever they are making them cash. Who cares about someone's mess of a card house, go find something else to cry and complain about. I know Puna quite well and I know who the complainers are. I was born in Hawaii, were you?

As for new building code, will we need double walls now? That seems excessive for a cabin.

God bless you Carey. I enjoyed your tales of yore...do you have any other good reads? Your use of mystery and subtle danger lurking in the shadows has me goose pimply scared and running from Puna. On a side note the veggie lasagna at Island Naturals was great today, I won't leave for that reason alone.
