Introduction / Bluebird
#11
Bluebird - Celtic blood here as well and my optimum operating temperature is mid-50s but over the years acclimatization does slowly kick in. September/October can be unpleasant as the trade winds get shut off quite often but then it does get quite cool in the evenings December through February. I'm also off on a north CA/Oregon road trip in a few weeks and have never been there before, so will hopefully get to see the area you lived in before moving to the Big Island!

Tom, I suggest you spend a little time on the Oregon coast if you can.

Jon,

Flights, car and most hotels booked. Most of the trip is highway 1 so all along the coast up to Astoria. Can't wait! Anyway, back to Bluebird...

ALOHA! Welcome - Bluebird!

Carey - Nope that one off of Maku'u near Beach is still Kapu! This one is on the " other side of the park". A friend of mine and a causal acquaintance of yours has an "offspring" who also works there (the last I heard). From what little I know, it's a (bi-valve) "spat" production setup only. Would be interesting to check out; especially with your aquatic interests.

Bluebird - cool here (HPP) is 60 to 65, hot is anything over say 80. At least that's "my" comfort zone. We are from N.CA, along the coast where a "really" nice summer day (without fog) was a balmy 65. I hope you will eventually find the weather here as pleasant as we do. The only minor annoyance for us is - how much you "sweat" with any physical activity. If you've been "lurking" for awhile - you have already discovered "PunaWeb" is as diverse as the "people" of Hawai'i and most of the time full of ALOHA! Jump right in, watch for Mano, and 'Ohoiho!

Welcome....

I'm also from Oregon - "GO DUCKS!" haha Enjoy your stay. Eventually, you'll adapt to the weather. You could move up the hill to orchidland/Hawaiian acres. 1K-1500 feet level will feel about 10 degrees cooler with more rain.

Or you could buy 10 250watt solar panels and a nice AC Unit. Smile

Aloha Bluebird -

Another Pacific Northwest friend here.
We are currently in my hometown of Bellingham, WA, while we get together the cash to buy land back on the BI (we used to live in both Hilo and the Ka'u region).
I love Oregon - we lived on the central coast one summer while I worked for the USFS. The cool foggy mornings were the best.

Aloha Bluebird... I am Dayna's husband. I grew up in Oregon, spent 15 years in Alaska, and now we call Puna home. We've never been happier. May your journeys find equal happiness.

Wow, thanks for all the nice messages! Haha yes he's "breeding". Actually selling seed is more accurate. The facility is in hpp off Kaloli. I'm not sure how old it is but I don't think very. We are living on maku'u up near the highway. I really like it there. It's also nice because my older son goes to HAAS and it makes it a short drive dropping off/picking up. Having lived on the Oregon coast for the last 8 years anything over 75 is way too hot for me! It is beautiful
here though and I love having fruit trees in my yard and all the amazing farmers markets!!
