We arrived at 11 AM for a swim but the gate was closed and there was a sign in front saying "Pool Closed." I tried calling later to see if the pool had reopened but the recording gives no information other than that the pool is closed and that the recording will be updated when it reopens. They used to at least give an explanation on the recording as to whether there was a mechanical problem or something else.
So, it reopened on August 26, 2013 after 8+ months of renovations and repairs that were supposed to fix all the previous problems, and 3 weeks later there's already a closure. Disappointing.

There are malfunctions and leaks in some of the piping. You are very much on point in your statement about this being discouraging. Wasn't it just two weeks ago that the pool was reopened to much fanfare? Well, for those who don't know, take it as another lesson in How photo ops and politics outweigh doing things right. The job was rushed for this opening. Even has Billy Kenoi himself was up there talking about the pool being a pu'uhonua and a place for the people -- there were workers still laboring behind the scenes to get all the kinks worked out. At the opening, it was not hard to see that despite all the work, and the mayor's words, the keiki pool was still not open. Given this immense political pressure to re-open, the new system never went though a test drive. In short, the test drive is happening now as the pool is open. And so far, the test drive went kaput with this latest closing. Talk about egg in the face for the mayor, Parks and Rec, and aquatics division.
How long will it be closed now? No word, but hopefully it reopens by this week. Apparently there are some problems with gaskets and filters. Maybe the county should have budgeted a little more than 1.5 mil. [

The Romans had fully functional heated pools using water that they piped in from hundreds of miles away using aqua ducts that were engineering marvels. No computers, no CAD systems, no heavy equipment, no modern technology used in the design. Fast forward 2,000 years and Pahoa can't keep a hole filled with water even WITH all that stuff? Wow...

Me thinks the First Hawaiian Bank tellers should stick to bank telling and not pool rumor telling.
