The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Acquisition and Property Management oversees the overall implementation of department’s procurement and grant programs. lol yes. it's like an unending anthropomorphic mountain of evil, vicious, rabid paperwork!
I probably shouldn't say anything else on the topic...but I know what you're saying. I don't really want to criticize them because too many people like to view such statements with an 'us' vs. 'them' mentality with no room for grey shades between the black and white.

best advice on dealing with the feds - dont engage them - they thrive on sucking one in - all the way to the politically biased supreme court ' 'nough said.......

What do you mean Jackson? It's probably the most frequented destination in Hawaii.

those are not researchers turned back at the gate today ....

while on the rant ----- I think NPS over sells the park as well -

the number one complaint I hear from FIT's (foreign independent tourists)returning to LAX is "where is the lava as advertised"

cant help but do exit interviews old habits die hard.....grin

I agree! The mission statement of HAVO includes providing the public with access to viewing lava. - yes please!

The volcano attracts tourists for sure. I think second only to Pearl Harbor and in the top ten most visited national parks. But there is a disrespectful (in my opinion) tone to the term, tourist attraction. First thing that comes to my mind is Tom Robbins.

Closing the parks is just a "stunt" the administration uses to make the government slimdown as painful on the taxpayers as possible. They are even shutting down parks that have no federal employees and receive no federal money to prove their point that they should either be allowed to continue their path of reckless spending or that "we will all pay the consequences".
