Ag/Tool Shed

While we build our garage, we will be tearing down the old unpermitted POS bldg (also over the setback) in our yard... but we will need something to put all the current stuff into for now.

What are the current rules on ag/tool shed?

I thought I remembered somewhere - under 200 SF and 10' tall doesnt require a permit.

Unless we just get one of those $300 tarp bldgs from HD, I was wondering if we can put up a quick and dirty true tool shed while we work on our garage? (Using wood from the bldg we are tearing down). I was thinking about 8 by 16 or 20. The POS current bldg is partially in the future garage footprint.

This is not to live in - we have a perfectly good house 50 ft away.

120sqf max except in ag zone you can have 600sqf
or anything under 6ft tall

But, according to the building inspector lady I asked, it must be for STORAGE! So you are OK, but not for a work space,

This topic has been addressed before. 120 sf, 600 sf, ag, whatever. The county will never OK it for living other than the traditional way of ignoring it, which appears to be how the majority of residences are handled in Puna.

I live in a shipping container. No one has ever said boo. Doesn't mean they won't at some time in the future.

For us the second it went over the allotted amount, we would get reported I am sure. Our st is pretty live and let live, but it is other residents (owners and a renter) who think they control the world.

And no it will NOT be workshop, or living space. We just need somewhere to store what will go from falling down shed to future garage. (if i had my way, none of it would go into temp storage but my hubby can be a bldg material hoarder!)

Okay so I am going to look at keeping it to 120 SF which is probably okay at 10 x 12-ish, or maybe 8 x 15 for longer items

How long 'til you have the new structure ready? Have Robert build it so sloppy that you can just call it a pile of opala.

I can see one argument for a plastic Home Depot shed in that it is probably already built to satisfy the limits for non-permitted structures and would immediately be recognized as such for what that is worth. Security would be a joke though.

Some of the sheds at HD are definitely over 6 feet, not that anyone would really care, but you certainly would be outside of the County rules.
