Paul is a really nice guy, hes very interested in listening to you and figuring out exactly what you want done and checking with you to make sure its what you wanted before he finishes.
I'd use Excavation Tech again and recommend him specifically to anyone in the orchidland/HPP area, hes based out of that area so itll be cheaper to move the equipment.

I also used Paul and give him an A++++. I asked Paul to do a lot of extra stuff and he just did it without hesitation. He also recommended other contractors for work he did not perform. Paul will also give you a Firm Fixed Price (FFP).
I think it is fair to say it would cost about $1300/day for D-9 work.

John's landclearing in Pahoa is far and away the best, most fair clearing guy on the island. He's been doing it 30+ years and knows every inch of Puna. has cleared 2 lots for me and is fantastic with vision. Windy driveways, leaving natural spots that fit perfectly in the design. Totally fair, will not over bid a job. His sons help him and they are really good.
Can't say enough about how competent and fair he is.

I dont know why James Kim was less, but he did a good job and the lot looks very nice. It has a windy driveway and a clearing of about an acre that is ripped. The house will be hidden.

Just wanting to know the name of the company that James Kim works for. I haven't posted in over a year I bought an acre in orchidland a couple years ago and then last year I got a great deal on a lot in hpp a few blocks from the ocean. Now I've got the money to get some work done. Last year I had the back half of the lot ripped but had someone tell me I paid way too much for the poor job that was done. I'm needing a septic system and some leveling and some baserock.

I found him in the phone book, but he was referred to me by a guy I called on craigslist. I'm not sure where his number is, but look in an old fashioned phone book under "excavators" (I think). GL.

Mahalo for getting back. I looked in the phone book under excavation but didn't find him closest name is Kim Lawrence trucking and excavation.

I looked in the white pages and I found under the last name Kim a J Kim excavation 959-5063. So when you had work done did you have a lot of blue rock. My land in HPP was all blue rock with a few inches of dirt on top. The guy who ripped for me last year used a D8 and someone told me that I should have hired someone with a D9 to rip blue rock. We initially planned on doing it ourselves but when we checked into renting equipment they wanted us to get insurance and the hourly cost was pretty high so we figured it'd be about the same if we hired someone. We own property in Washington State and we did all the clearing, leveling, house pads private road and driveways ourselves only hired someone to do septic systems. So we figured we do all that with our land in HPP. We later found that things we did for ourselves on the mainland you can't do in Hawaii. Like we put in our meter boxes and wired them and we dug our electric ditches, ground rods, wire and conduit. In Hawaii I think we aren't allowed to do any of that.

As far as I can see my lot was all blue rock. It was also a weird lot and he made the building site up on the only high point. It isnt "perfect", but for 3k I have a cleared acre and a winding driveway going in, so I am happy. I could have probably paid more and had the lot flattened more, but for now it is very good. It's all ripped, the trees are off to the side, and it's level where a house can be built. I"d go look at lots before you hire someone so you have a good idea what your dollar will buy.
