HDOT Needs To Engage The Public

I've had a difficult time getting updates through the CFLHD, FHWA and HDOT for the past couple months, especially regarding the Queen Kaahumanu Highway widening and Saddle Road phases. I've had to get updates through alternative means as a result.

I haven't seen the HDOT engage the public regarding the current Keaau-Pahoa Road Shoulder Lane conversion project.

These impediments were the genesis of this letter to the editor West Hawaii Today published today.

Far as I can tell, all Hawaii government operations are designed to hinder public involvement as much as possible. Information is available, but tracking the status of any given project is basically a full-time job.

Kalakoa, I have used the email sites to express opinions, suggestions or flat-out complaints. No response...zilch.
You are correct about finding information. I almost am gleeful when I find another level of info that was hidden. It's almost like playing some game. Pass level one and you get to level two, etc.
I'm ready to begin a phone campaign and get well-known as the local nag!
