Not Hawaii related, but asking for suggestions

Sorry for replying to such an old thread but just wanted to thank everyone again for all your suggestions. Various circumstances are conspiring (in a good way) and the result is that the trip will start tomorrow evening, well, at least the bit that involves getting to the mainland. We've decided to give the big cities a miss (Portland and Seattle) and concentrate on smaller coastal towns. Right now I won't say which because most will be a surprise to Pam and there's a chance she'll read the list here, but it'll be a road trip from the Santa Barbara area up to Astoria, Or, and back. I've taken all your recommendations on board and think this will be an amazing road trip and am really looking forward to it.

So thank you once again! This would have been so much harder to plan without your contributions and we both appreciate them!

tom, i have always said hawaii is a warm oregon! although lots of changes in both places since i left the PNW, the only place i miss on the mainland. do stop in fort bragg, and on the oregon coast i second the sand dunes and well, almost anywhere on the oregon coast is stunning. some of you old timers have got to remember the rainbow gatherings down there.! crater lake if the weather holds is a must..

Tom, be safe and spread the Aloha for all of us. Have fun check out part of the hurst Castle, Talk to the Red Woods, Collect a few sand Dollars, Eat by the water as much as possible. The clams, crabs, Salmon and Wine are all musts. Look for a few indian casino's along the way as they offer great deals and luxury, not to mention Gambling which can pay for your trip if your lucky. AVOID LAX.
