Rooster farms in HPP mapped. HEY Sputnut!

You're right !! no one would notice Magnum P.I.'s red Ferrari or that he might appear to be a little overdressed in his designer jeans and Reyn Spooner Smile His boys would pull it off and then head to Chi Chi & Reni's bar in Pearl city
to celebrate!

I said that knowing it was a worse idea, to make a point. What can one do if one of these things moves in next to you? Living with it isn't possible. Moving is not an option, so don't say it again because my house would be un-sellable unless I lost tens of thousands of dollars.
Why does everyone accept that it's ok for these people to do that to someone? If they set my house on fire and did tens of thousands of dollars damage they could be prosecuted. At least insurance would cover that.

Simple solution that is fair for everyone.

Don't buy an AG lot.

Setting your house on fire is against the law.

Raising roosters is not.

It really is simple.

Spudnut,

I'm not aware that you are living next to a rooster operation at this time so I have to assume you are all worked up about a situation that hasn't happened yet. People have learned to live with coqui, I have, and loud as they are at night they seem to have faded into the background noise unless someone mentions them. I have a well insulated home so the decibels are low indoors.

Let's examine your "living with it isn't possible" statement.

1. Roosters crow occasionally, not 24/7. The rooster operations I've seen don't have roosters crowing all the time. Roosters are noted for crowing at sun rise..... something a person can get used to. Lot's of people are living, not committing suicide, next to rooster operations at this time. There is a rooster farm right next to the Pahoa Police station.

2. The mapping Eightfingers did came up with nineteen operations among 8,800 lots. That's one rooster operation per 463 lots in HPP. Odds are in your favor.

3. Instead of fearing losing tens of thousands in home value you could address your fears by investing in buying the adjacent property, as others have suggested. Or invest in installing sound attenuation (insulation).... that is useful for the coqui.

4. IF you actually had roosters next door and if they did in fact drive you nuts you could talk to your neighbor about it... maybe all rooster owners aren't completely inconsiderate. Probably at least a 50/50 proposition there.

I think you are over blowing your concern about something that hasn't happened to you and there is a slim chance of it happening. Without roosters people seem to find things to get worked up about with their neighbors. Loud music, screaming domestic disputes, revving engines, albezia trees threatening to fall, druggies, people moving property pins, burglary, helicopters, oh and the ever present coqui.

Relax, shoot your best shot. If you can't get away from your fears of what AG zoning can do to you control your environment and buy enough land to give yourself some piece of mind. Still cheaper than buying in town. If you don't want to buy vacant land next to yours you can offer to pay the current owners a few hundred bucks to add a restriction to their deed disallowing roosters. They'd probably take the money and add a restriction. You could probably cover both sides for $1,000. Peace of mind could be affordable.
Assume the best and ask questions.

What? These birds get to live and strut around getting the best of food and care... look at what happens to most of the rest of the chickens... It is a brutal end for most of these birds. Turn in the store owners for providing hens murdered in the fresh bloom of youth,,, and the farmers who raise them turn them in too.

Now THERE'S the Rob Tucker I have come to know and love on here. You are right, I am going on about something that hasn't happened to me and likely will not. (my luck it will, though) I know I would be more than miserable if it did, and having never lived anywhere but central Illinois my whole life and not having had to deal with neighbors for years I am nervous about moving to say the least. I hope it never does happen as I am not sure what I would do. It worries me that so many say to let them do what they want and just live with it. That attitude made hitler powerful.

Buddha said something similar too, about acceptance.

Having roosters on ag. land is legal. Invading other countries , Killing innocent people is atrocious .

Live and let live on the other hand is very much the lifestyle of Puna.

If you truly can not see the difference, you WILL be unhappy here.

I have no problem with live and let live, I am very big on that.
Moving in next door to me with 50 roosters is not letting ME live. That is my whole problem with it. They would be invading my space in a very large way and I am supposed to welcome it?
