Orchidland Special Membership Meeting
#1
There will be a special Orchidland Community Meeting on Saturday, December 14, 8:30am at Connection Point Church, HPP, on 32nd Avenue, between Paradise and Makuu. This Special Membership Meeting called to rescind road fee proposals vote taken on November 16 Regular Membership Meeting.

Rich, can you elaborate here a bit? We were unable to attend the meeting. Just wondering what the result of the vote was that results in another meeting being called.

"This Special Membership Meeting called to rescind road fee proposals vote taken on November 16 Regular Membership Meeting."

I sure hope that there are plans to inform Orchidland residents directly.

I don't know any more details..I'm just passing along info the Board asked to share. This meeting was just called, and I understand that the Board is trying to publicize any way they can - newspaper ads, etc.

At the last meeting a proposal to fix the roads properly was presented. As I recall, annual fees would have gone from $150 per year to $275-300 per year, but this would have finished all the paving and grades all the gravel roads (which have never, ever, been properly graded). The thought was that right now road fees are insufficient to fix the roads properly, so we're just throwing away money - in theory, once the roads were done right, annual maintenance costs would be significantly reduced.

Some thought that doubling was too big a jump, so a vote was taken, with the result being that entire community would be polled about the increase, with three options offered: keep current rate, increase to $200 (approx), or go to the full $300. The president, who felt anything less than the full $300 option was disrespecting those who were promised their streets would be paved years ago, resigned in protest, and the meeting -- which had been as contentious as usual -- spriraled into chaos. That's when I figured I had more productive things to do, so I left.

Not sure if this special meeting is an attempt to undo the assessment vote, or another vote that had occurred after I left. The sense I got from my brief conversation with a Board member is that in the chaos of the meeting, a vote may have been taken that wasn't done in concurrence with Robert's Rules, so they need to clean up a mess. What I can assume is that the special interests are going to try to pack the meeting to get their way, so its important that all Orchidland residents show up to represent a variety of viewpoints.

Hmm, I guess at this point I almost feel like we'd be paying twice as much but not having any difference in our road.

The moral of the story is: no matter how much the road fees are, it's never enough.

I feel I am already paying a lot, and would rather just pay more and get the entire job done at this point. NOt sure if I can make the meeting, but I will try. Hopefully, we'll all get some notice in the mail or something. thanks

So if I understand correctly, the 50% of the property owners who pay their fees will pay double to subsidize the 50% who don't pay anything. It seems like if they collected from the deadbeats, we would have better roads and they could lower the fees.

If I understand correctly, 100% of the property owners (and tourists, and businesses) pay taxes/fees so the State can pave (and re-pave) a section of highway that doesn't even need maintenance.

Seems like if they just did the work where it was needed, got it right the first time, and didn't leave the equipment sitting around, we could have better roads for the same tax revenue.

Why, it's almost as if the goal isn't "to pave the roads".
