I usually look at the price of parts vs a new one before opening one up - buy the same brand and type - now you have a bunch of spare parts

If you're going to have someone else fix it, it's cheaper to buy new

...especially if you buy new Chinese hardware from Walmart: you've already subsidized at least a third of the cost with your taxes, might as well take the "discount".
