Only on the Big Island!
#1
I had one of those "only on the Big Island" moments this week.

I was stopped in traffic next to Kalakaua Park and see this little compact car that looked like it was full of big gray and white dogs parked on the side of the road. When I looked closer at this tiny woman trying to get what appeared to be a huge dog out of the driver's seat so she can get in (all dog owners know about this) I realized the "dogs" were about a half dozen sheep and goats crammed into a little beater Honda hatchback! Made my day after a particularly painful PT session.

Way cute, reminds me of seeing the "chicken man". The guy who bicycles around Puna with a chicken on his shoulder, selling fresh eggs #128540; yep only on the BI. That is what I so love about this place!

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha

thanks for the story of the goats in car, when you 1st started describing I was thinking it would be pigs... but goats/sheep may be even stranger lol

My "only in Hilo" moment was similar, came out of Home Depot to see a big goat in the back of a Toyota Camrey. It was sticking his head out the back window bleating! I thought, "only in Hilo"

Sorry about your painful PT session (for what?, I wonder), but glad that you had one of those moments. I have them every single day. I remain completely disoriented after two years on the island. The sense of irreality is strong here.

Kelena,
I got rear ended right by the humane society and it messed up my neck, mid back and some ribs, my PT guy is good, but the process is painful since all my muscles keep wanting to pull things back out of place. I know what you mean about the alternate reality of this place, now I just live in the Hawaii zone and it is much easier unless I go to the mainland, then I get a little discombobulated.

Thanks for the link Bananahead. Sure would be boring if we were all the same. So happy BI will have a variety of peoples to chat with Smile

People where I am at are tightly closed up in their box and are afraid of anything different Smile

On occasion I, too, have transported sheep and goats in my compact car, because I don't have a truck. Actually, in my experience they are better behaved than dogs - they just sit still and look around.Maybe because the car is more comfortable than the bed of a pickup.

When mama sheep refused to feed her newborn lamb, I started feeding it w/ a bottle. So had to bring lambie shopping w/ me to Hilo. While feeding said lamb in the back of my truck in her box, outside Subway, a chef comes out of the restaurant next door & starts oogling my little Lamb. He asked what I was going to do w/ her & my horrified expression told him I wasn't selling her to him & he went back inside. True story - only in Hilo!
