Whats the biggest change in Puna since 1978?
#1
I first came to Hilo and then Puna in 1978. I was just 19 but it sure made a special impact on me much different than Oahu. Coming back in 08 just felt different but at the same time felt the same.peace

people and traffic, hpp full of jungle bunnies and blue tarps... road to kalapana open to the park, liberty house and the sears catalogue store, the crazy black lady that would "hex" you if you didnt give her money...(guess that was hilo not puna) could go on and on, a different world then, and yet, the same.[Big Grin]

Yes, of course the road was open then. It was about a decade later that it would be covered. All down hill from Volcano to Queens Bath and Kaimu. What I miss the most.

Well, to be honest, I wasn't alive in 1978, so it's hard to imagine the road to kalapana open to the park..... Crazy to think how close we really are to volcano! When did the hippie influx start? I'd assume it was before 1978? I would say the biggest difference (not only in Hawaii, but everywhere) would be humanities advance in technology. It's really starting to take over. Sad really....
