Hurray for Obamacare! Vast improvement!

$6350 is the deductible, furthermore, depending on the insurance policy, and how much extortion money (premiums)you pay, out of pocket expenses can be almost limitless.
Private for profit health insurance is a total ripoff. You can have it and still go bankrupt.
Healthcare and health insurance are two very different things.

I've been saying this all along, but my "attitude problem" makes it hard for people to hear.

for those of us that have been insured (and carrying the freight over the years) There seems to be little change (Kaiser)

Other than the new law mandating coverage has really clogged up the system with new users

Single payer would have been so much more effective -but then again the insurance companies wrote this new mandate -not in the patients interest.

The reactionary right playing right into corporate hands

The best solution for health care is Medicare for all- womb to tomb, no one left out or without healthcare.

The ACA originally included a "public option" based on Medicare, but this was removed at the request of the insurance industry lobbyists.

I think 15 million in campaign contributions (2008) from the health insurance industry to Hawaii's Favorite Son Presidential Candidate had something to do with it too.[Wink]

Bullwinkle, How does your insured status mean you've been "carrying the freight"? Just curious as to how you are thinking.

I bypassed the govt website and bought the kaiser independently, but they have to follow the same Obamacare guidelines- and that is why I like it.

I'm sure not many here have any concerns about this situation, but many Native Hawaiian families will be affected.

Julie,
I think what Bullwinkle is referring to is that fact that those of us who have been insured all along have been subsidizing the cost of providing medical care to those who are uninsured. See this website for details:

http://www.pbs.org/healthcarecrisis/uninsured.html

I'm, guessing this was done before Obamacare kicked in). Here's the key take-away from the article:

"More than one third of uninsured adults reported they have problems paying their bills, which helps explain why many of the uninsured don't seek out the care they need until the last minute. But when an uninsured person is in crisis and cannot pay, that burden falls upon the insured population, the hospitals, the doctors and the government. And these billions of dollars of "uncompensated care" drive up health insurance premiums for everyone."

I'll say it again, extend Medicare to all Americans, a single health care system that automatically covers us all, gets the private insurance parasites out of business. American health care is a dysfunctional disaster that doesn't provide for the needs of all American people.
The cost and results of our "Health Industrial Complex" are a scandal.
The costs here in Hawaii as a result of our private "HIC" are as crazy as anywhere else in the country.
For instance, how much small business never can start or prosper because of the demands of the "HIC"?[Sad]
