Safeway Gas

Haven't noticed a thread devoted to Safeway's new gas station, but there should be. Today's regular was $3.78 per gallon. Everywhere else on the Hilo side it was $3.95 - $3.99. I've been told that a sufficient number of Safeway points for frequent shoppers reduces the price per gallon even more.

I'm not a Safeway shopper, but based on the amount saved today and cumulative possibilities - that just may change.

Cheapest on the island right now... If you build up points,... Even cheaper than Costco.

Edit: as someone who has worked for them for 10 years, you might already know, they make up the difference
With the internal price tags.

Isn't that price for cash or debit? I believe the credit card price is 10 cents more per gallon. Also, we were hoping it would be Chevron gas, but were told is it Tesoro. For some reason, that makes a big difference to my husband.

Also, the Chevron station at Walmart is still honoring the Safeway point discounts. Not sure how long that will continue.

Loretta, yes that was the cash and/or debit card price. I never use a credit card to buy petrol, so I didn't even notice the credit card price. I was a bit concerned about quality, but after filling up and driving to Kapaau, Hawi and Waimea - there was no discernable difference in my truck's performance. A good deal!

That's so true. They're doing away with the $30.00 prescription drug punchcard. Buy 15 prescription drugs....get a $30.00 safeway gift card.

Costco is only thought of as cheap for the leeward side, not cheap for the island...

Tesoro in Hilo (bayfront) is 4 cents cheaper right now, but a month back I remember alot of gas stations in Hilo were same or a bit cheaper compared to Costco in Kailua...
