Hawaii is already super expensive and this just compounds it. With so many fundamentalist types now in Hawaii basically saying "let them die from starvation," the situation really IS getting dire.

I say cut everyones taxes to zero and let individuals thrive and make the world a better place. Compassion, tolerance, love and liberty are things that come from the individual, not more laws. I don't think I have ever heard anyone say "let them die from starvation".

The figures are misleading because anyone making less than 40,000 (not sure on the exact #) qualifys for public assistance

Yes, people will really thrive without any public courts, roads, schools, police, etc. Just look at how well it's working in Somalia.

No idea what you're talking about (the only "public assistance" someone making $40k would get is a health insurance subsidy, which most people don't get because they have it through their employer), but even people who do get public assistance still pay taxes.

Yes, welcome to Somalia, we have jobs, jobs, jobs*! Even starting wages can be millions of dollars in the Somali Pirate trade.
And that's 100% TAX FREE $ U.S. MILLIONS! (Zimbabwe Dollars not accepted.)

Then what's the #s

There was an Affordable housing program in the paper with a 40+ Qual. And what's the percentage of people in the state get any kind of assistance or reduced prices
Not saying the tax rate isn't high, when you figure in Get and all the fees it's insane but to say their trying to "run out the poor" is PC dreck

You folks know that there are seven states without income tax right? Most of them have rip roaring economies, compared to ours. Hard for the tax code to be unfair when the state does not own a part of your labor.

The seven states without a state income tax:
•Alaska
•Florida
•Nevada
•South Dakota
•Texas
•Washington

Seven of the states which receive more federal tax dollars than they contribute:
•Alaska
•Florida
•Nevada
•South Dakota
•Texas
•Washington

Why have a state income tax, when you can take federal tax dollars from others to balance your own state's budget?
