Meat Animals

wondering if anyone raises their own meat animals, other then fish?

There's a guy on Kahakai that raises sheep right in his front and side yard. Here in Hawaiian Beaches. Small lot too, I'm assuming around 10-15k square feet. Wonder what that smells like? Neighbors right next door.

I raise sheep, broiler x chickens and rabbits for meat.

We raise beef and, sometimes, a pig or two.

I could have raised Giant African Land Snails when I first moved onto this lot, but have winnowed their population with "Zen Speed Bumps"...added benefit, drastically reduced the corner drifting of the drivers on our street...

That said, many of our neighbor raise and or butcher at home, chicken, pig & goats (this is an in-town small lot area, but adjacent to leased farm lots...so there are many feral visitors that become tasty tidbits.

thank you for the replies. ah yes,.. I have encountered your Giant African Land Snails.. (lol) I asked this question because once I get settled, in Hawaii, I plan on raising my own small meat animals...however, I do not wish to butcher them myself, so was just putting feelers out on if someone else could be hired to do that. I really like your website Dayna, great idea.

There are many resources here for butchering, from do-it-yourself, to having someone come to your farm to do it (for fee or portion), to going to a butcher (Kulana Foods in Hilo is one place that I know of)

I have a novel idea!!! How about just go VEGAN and save the lives of the animals and keep them as pets instead of killing them (compassion) and save yourself the health issues associated with eating meat ~ ~ ~ Hawai'i is PERFECT for growing fruits and veggies and their are CHOKE DELICIOUS dishes/recipes to surprise even the die-hard meat eater ~ ~ ~ jus' sayin' ~ ~ ~
