From Philip Matlage, Hawaii County Democratic Party Dist. 4 chairman:
This is a reminder to all Democrats and wanna-be Dems that Puna makai's District 4 district and precinct elections are scheduled for 7-9 p.m. this Wednesday, March 5, at Pahoa High School cafeteria. Please come and become an officer, get involved it is "Our Party."
Becoming a precinct officer costs nothing and gives you enormous power in the system. Remember that Big Island district/precinct officers have, in the last 3 years selected the replacements for 1 US senator, 2 state senators and 1 House representative. Only WE precinct officers get to name those people from whom the Governor chooses to represent us in that situation, rare that it is.
Make our voice known, it's not a Party until you're there!

Postscript from Frankie: It's true: the plantation-system political machine is make, die, dead. The late Sen. Inouye was funding practically everything for the state Democratic Party and his treasure chest is no longer there. There is a void in leadership in the state....that's why all the good ole boys & girls are back running for major offices. Puna, let's build a new grass-roots Democratic Party that actually believes in and adheres to our state Democratic platform! And it has to start at the precinct meetings.....please come on Wednesday night!!!
