Sending online purchases to Hawaii
#1
Aloha!

We're trying to buy a 28lb pool pump (39x22x22 inches) but mainland sellers (including Amazon) charge hundreds of dollars to send it to Hawaii. Does anyone know of a cheaper option? I looked at shiptohawaii.com but it's a $200 minimum.

Buying it here in Hawaii isn't an option, the price is crazy!

In general, has anyone found a way to get cheap shipping to Hawaii?

There are "grades" of Amazon.

- sold and fulfilled by Amazon
- fulfilled by Amazon on behalf of partner
- fulfilled directly by Amazon partner

In some cases an item will be listed multiple times; the one that's Amazon-direct will indicate "eligible for free shipping".

In this particular case, it looks like a size problem rather than a weight problem.

If all else fails, search eBay, or order from the Northern Tool catalog and ship through ACE hardware (apparently that's a thing).

If shipping is expensive enough, fly to the nearest mainland airport and carry everything back as a checked bag. (It sounds insane, but there are some extreme cases where it's actually cost-effective.)

There's always Harbor Freight, which quotes $45 first-class parcel for either of these:

it would go parcel post. they give you 109 inches max. weight isnt much. i have found, when i call vendors many many times they will agree to ship usps. it is worth a phone call to ask. just got a package last week where they said fedex only, but after a call, i got it in the mail...

Thanks everyone! In this case Amazon Prime is definitely the way to go.
The other options will be useful for items that aren't on Amazon or not eligible for Prime.
Keep the suggestions coming.
Thanks again.

You could give Aloha Forwarding a call and check their rates.

Not sure if it's available at Home Depot, but if it is, they won't charge shipping if you go through their local order desk.

Yes, by taking it on the plane as luggage. I even brought a kitchen sink one trip

Check to see if Grainger sells your product, I know they have pool pumps. If you see the item online, call the Honolulu Branch and you can get a 15 % off island pricing discount. I just had an order shipped from them about the same package size, but 30 lbs and the shipping was only $16.35. Otherwise I agree with hikatz with using Aloha Forwarding. I always use them for mainland sites that do not ship to Hawaii. I can calculate the price online with USPS, UPS and FedEx from Aloha FW to Hawaii and know what my shipping will be before I even order the item. They are very trustworthy.
