Never Forget...
#1
Fifteen years ago, The phone rang in the middle of the night (never a good call), and it was my Brother who was working at the Honolulu FAA Tower. He said, "Turn on the TV!" I did, and could not believe what we were watching. Then he said, "I gotta go, be safe, Sis. This is history in the making. I gotta go." (in a tone of voice I have never heard from my Brother).

As we watched the first plane hit the first tower, I just started tearing up, and could not believe my eyes. The moments following was so surreal. The second plane hitting the tower, the third plane hits the Pentagon. I will never forget the overwhelming wave of sadness, shock, and disbelief.

So many heroes in this tragedy, especially the passengers aboard United flight 93 who stormed the cockpit, the first responders who ran into the collapsing buildings, and all those who helped the victims and their families in the coming days, weeks, and years. I will never forget these heroes.

As we watch football, have Sunday coffee and breakfast, there remains a pit in my stomach on this day, like every year since September 11, 2001. I will never forget, and say a silent prayer for those who lost their lives, those who will forever be changed by this attack on our country, and for those of us who are left to carry on.

May the Good Lord bless and keep us in His grace, and protect us all as we move forward. I will never forget.

Aloha to all, aloha kekahi i kekahi (love one another).

JMO. (All pau write; teary eyed again.)

P.S. *Apologies for not being Puna related. Below is a good article in reflection of the events that transpired fifteen years ago today:

Many heroes not taken care of, soldiers lost, civilians killed, civil rights trampled, and lessons left unlearned. We owe it to those who have suffered for our country to be vigilant not only to the threat of terrorism, but the threat of losing who we are while fighting it. We must hold ourselves to a higher standard.

A day I will never forget. Please understand that everyone around the world came together that day. Even the US National Anthem was played at Buckingham Palace, something that I believe had never been done before.
