Hawaiian Monopoly for inter-island flights means higher airfares. Hoping someone comes in soon to compete with Hawaiian to keep prices affordable!!

Unless it is a major player like United/Continental, American, Delta, etc, 'aint nobody coming in to compete against Hawaiian. And last I checked, most of those big players are already partners with Hawaiian.

I would never fly with Go! but this is bad news. I no longer see any airfares lower than $83 Hilo-Honolulu one-way for the the next few months and suspect they'll only get higher. You could get those flights for around $70 a few weeks ago. Mixed feelings though. I'm glad Mesa is going.

Alaska Air (AS) would be an ideal competitor to HA for intra-island service. Consider:
1. They are NOT partnered with Hawaiian Air.
2. Extensive experience with regional service (Horizon Air in Pacific Northwest and, most recently, new service within State of Alaska.
3. Fleet is standardized to newest Bombardier Q-400 planes.
4. The Q400 goes head-to-head with the ATR's used by Ohana (pax capacity, fuel efficiency, etc.).
5. AS already serves Hawaii (including Big Island) from mainland. They already have adequate terminal and ground staff to handle more flights.
