Rooster farms in HPP mapped. HEY Sputnut!
I think one or two roosters are very typical for ag lots and very acceptable. But I live next door to a Rooster Farm that has 30-50 Roosters that crow, and scream from 0430. To 1800 everyday. We have to Close the windows during the day same as at night for the frogs (but at least we are sleeping at night). And if anyone thinks they Crow only a few times a day , try come my house. The racket is unbelievable at feeding times. So much for the serenity of Hawaii.

MBB, Sorry for your noise pollution. Did you buy first or did your chicken neighbor? If it was that bad next to my house I would be eating chicken regularly?. Chicken soup, chicken burgers, chicken taco's, ect. Maybe some all night loud band sessions should take place at your house? Or a dozen really large strobe lights around your place can make the rooster's confused?. Personally I love Pit bulls and lots of them, Pit bulls also like chickens?.

We knew the area, but bought while on the mainland via family member who checked it out. Apparently chicken farm was not noticed (high brush) and noise not noticed at the showing. I am all for live and let live and I don't expect total quiet in a AG zone, but this is ridiculous.
Thanks for the chicken recipes.

I'm curious!

-why are they called show birds?

-can ship them to guam to fight - and be a farmer? Raising animals to mutilate eachother to satisfy someones violent tendencies makes a farmer?
(Maybe theres a loop-hole allowing you to not be jailed for what you are doing - but calling it farming is quite offensive and belittles the work farmers do.)

-supporting local economy by morally shady means that manufactures a ?product? That is 100% illegal to utilize in Hawaii ... You even admit you must ship them out of the country to even sell them legally - so where is this support coming from?

Being born in a specific place doesn't translate into making whatever you do in said place automatically justified. I don't know who is perpetuating this nonsense around here but its starting to become tiresome.

rainyjim,

It looks like you are trolling for an argument. Back up and be a bit more respectful.

Is this supposed to make it 'right'?

We ship to Guam where it is legal there to fight them.
I will accept this as your agreement that it is illegal to sell them in Hawaii.

So far you've established that what you raise them to do is illegal in Hawaii and it is not even legal to sell them here - based off this I'm curious to hear how you support the local community?

I am proud to be a farmer here on Hawaii Island.
I am curious about where in your life you decided raising birds to mutilate each other in a completely different country made you a farmer?

Game birds are a local culture and it is what it is.
Animal cruelty and the associated mental illnesses that are attributed to this gruesome affliction are considered heinous crimes in our culture here in America, and it is what it is.

I suggest to the many thinking of staying and raising birds here to torture them, do your research 1st. If changing times and animal cruelty laws bothers you move to Guam or some other backwards 3rd world country.

It is a small island,we all know one another in one capacity or another.

We see each other all over when out n about .

We are our own neighbors .

Life is a blessing - so please don't torture animals. Thanks.

Okay Jim,

We know your position. Meanwhile it is legal to raise game chickens in Hawaii whether you approve or not. Mimosa is new here and you are taking a week off.

Punchline: permitted ... agricultural ... use ...

I forget how the joke goes, though.

One thing I like about Hawaii is that we are a soup of different cultures. Different cultures requires some degree of acceptance and to succeed here people should be prepared to accept that.

On another thread someone was strongly protesting raising animals for food. That's fine, just no need here on Punaweb to take issue with those who do.
