Neighbor with Lots of Guests last 7 nights???
#1
As this is the seventh night we have about 30 cars parking on our little street & people (adult) coming in at 8pm & leaving well past midnight...welll.... ideas on what it might be?

Last Friday & Saturday...OK, nice long party... Sunday was really getting annoying when someone who parked up against a stop sign had gotten a parking ticket & exploded at about 2:30 am (really bad, as DH has to get up at 4am to go to work :~(

Last 3 nights I have requested folks not to park by the stop (really did not enjoy that explosion, and am amazed that most of the people p[arking there have no idea you cannot park right up against a stop sign...even a cab driver did it...

Tonight put a line of water filled buckets by the stop sign...one was hit, but the potential parker moved on...

My question is why so many want to park right up against a stop sign... that, and why soo many cars? (esp. since at least one is a CAB DRIVER!) (my thoughts went to pit fighting when this extended beyond the weekend, but unless these only have human noises, I doubt that is what is going down... )

Might be a secret meeting of a "secret Orchidland road commitee". It could also be some "secret meeting of contrail watchers".

My guess would be a possible wake poker party?. Sometimes after some have passed(died), gambling and parties will take place for awhile 3-14 days usually. Lots of cab drivers play all-night poker here in hilo. This is only my guess, hope you get some sleep and can find your peace and patience buttons?.

Gypsy, you were right!

Curiosity got to me & while I was walking the pup, I asked one of the guests...one of the very older neighbors (I hadn't seen him in a while) passed, and this is the last two nights! I have enough Irish in me that I understand the gathering, but had not heard of it lasting over 4 nights...so this was new to me!

Now there's a great local culture lesson! Wow, who'd've thunk it. Thanks for sharing gypsy.

Someone may have died. People come by to support the family.

Pretty common on all the islands. I would have students disappear for a week or 10 days and when they came back they would say a family member on another Island died. I got into a conversation with one of my students about it and she said that funerals/wakes always turn into extended family reunions, that they last for days so everyone can get there, even if they fly in from the mainland, and it gives everyone a chance to bond.

Jewish people call it "shiva", also lasting seven days. It's not just a "Hawaiian thing".
